Marilyn (Tema) Anderson

Anderson, Marilyn (nee Tema) Marilyn Tema Anderson, born February 29, 1932 age 83, of Coon Rapids, MN passed away in the presence of her loving family on January 14, 2016. Survived by her 5 children; Gregory (Jan) Sloat, Jennifer Draper, Wesley (Mariti) Sloat, Cynthia Prinzing, and Carolyn Sloat; 10 grandchildren, Alana, Peter, Melody, Zachary, and Jessalyn Draper, Ken and Natalie Sloat, and Arielle, Caroline, and Ian Prinzing, 2 step-grandchildren Kirsteen and Kurt, 5 great grand-children, her sister Carol Opheim, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Caroline Tema, sister Joan Weaver, brother Bob Tema, and son-in-law Warren Prinzing. Marilyn grew up in Columbia Heights and was a pioneer in the dance world, starting in the 1950's forging a career by opening her own dance studio at age 18. After running her dance studio for 35 years, she reinvented herself in another artistic capacity when she went back to school and earned a degree in Interior Design. She worked in interior design for many years, while keeping her involvement in dance by running a dance studio with her daughter Cynthia. She instilled the love of arts in all of her children, taking them to performances both local and even on Broadway. She was always supportive and loving to her children and grandchildren, and will be missed dearly by them all. Her example of perseverance is something that we all will have to work hard to live up to. She had many challenges, starting with her diagnosis of MS, and yet she kept teaching dance, going to school, working and keeping busy. In later years her physical abilities were less, but she continued to press on and not let anything stop her. Her sense of humor was always there, and she was a glass-is-half-full lady. Her unique birthday was always a source of fun because she was only not quite 21. This year is a leap year, and we know she's having the biggest, best Leap Year Birthday ever. She taught all her children about love, and the most important thing of all, that God loves us and is our Savior. She instilled that in her family and that is the greatest gift we could receive. We will miss her so much, but we have all of these qualities in our hearts and minds that we will carry on with us until we see her again.
