Margaret (Williams) Mullen

Mullen, Margaret Virginia (Williams) age 90, of Edina, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2010. Margaret is survived by a family and friends that adored her. Her children and their spouses: Philip (Jane), John (Doris), Janet (Bob), Rick (Sharon); her grandchildren and their children: Andrew (Piwai), Jeff, Ben (Mary), Vanessa (Ben), Dana, Wyatt (Jasmin), Chyvaun (Chuck, Lily and Draden), and Amber (Travis). She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip. Margaret was born in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania on February 9, 1920, the only child of Jay and Hazel Williams. She was raised in a loving home with her parents, her Aunt Ethel and her beloved grandparents, Mawie and Pawie. Together they survived the Great Depression where Margaret learned many of her habits of frugality and thrift. She also learned to sew during this time and became a master seamstress. Margaret was a secretary when she met her husband and they were married in 1941. They had 47 years of marriage. Philip and Margaret traveled extensively including trips to the Holy Lands, Russia, Japan and South America. During her marriage, Margaret learned to play bridge and had dear bridge partners, Shirley, Jan, Eileen and Marge with whom she played for 40 years. Often they played at Interlachen Country Club where Margaret was a social member for 50 years and often they played at the Edina Senior Center where Margaret participated in many fun trips. She was a member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church and attended every Sunday until her health forced her to stay home. She then learned to love listening to the sermon on the radio. Margaret was the most optimistic person any of us ever knew. Margaret will be dearly missed by everyone who met her - she was always kind and believed that love was the answer to most of life's problems. She found the best in everyone and was never unkind. She set a beautiful example for all who met her. This is one of Margaret's favorite verses: "And now these three remain: Faith, Hope, and love.
