Margaret Moore

Moore (Perry) - Margaret Elizabeth Jones Perry Moore, age 94, of Minneapolis, MN, peacefully passed away Friday, October 25, 2002, in her home at the Jones Harrison Residence. She was born February 15, 1908, in Norfolk, VA, to Mabel Virginia Davis and Cleveland H. Jones. Capt. Jones was the founder of Jones Boat Yard on the Miami River, FL. Mabel was a well-known designer and dressmaker in the Norfolk community who died very young, leaving Margaret and her brother Vernon as small children. Margaret was predeceased by her husband and father of their three children, yacht Captain Charles C. Perry; her second husband Boyd Moore; her son Charles M.S. Perry; her brother Vernon Jones; and her half-brothers Cleveland Jones Jr. and Frank Jones. She is survived by daughters Ann Perry Slosser (Dr. Gaius) of Edina, and Susan Perry Redding of Miami, FL. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Katrin Slosser Kaminsky, Gretchen Slosser Pirasteh (Ahmad), Eric Slosser (Lucy), Margit Slosser Wallner (Michael), Brandt Slosser, Neva Redding Cornelson (Bryan), Charles Redding (Jeanie), Clay Redding (Jackie), Cory Redding, Cynthia Perry Brooks (Steven) and Matthew Perry (Stephani). From those came 16 great-grandchildren: Tilikum Redding; Gregory & Jenny Kaminsky; Mina & Kamran Pirasteh; Cecile, Felice & Isabelle Wallner; Anthony & Vincent Redding; Benjamin, Collin & Beau Redding; Morgan & Zachary Brooks; Sarah Perry; and soon to come: Matilda Slosser, Lucas Wallner, and Margaret Perry. Cousins, Dottie Jane Smith Ripley & Garland Smith Jr. and nieces, Jane Perry Roberts & Molly Perry Stone also survive. Margaret was a long-time kindergarten teacher at Coral Way Elementary School in Miami and then, privately, at her home. She nurtured hundreds of young minds over the years. In the spring of 1945 Margaret had the honor of christening the Libery Ship S.S. FRANK FLOWERS in Panama City, FL. She was an active member of Business & Professional Women and Natives of Dade for many years and much involved with her churches in Miami and in Southport, NC where she also volunteered for 17 years at Dosher Memorial Hospital. Margaret was an expert in needlework arts and gardening. The family extends its grateful appreciation to Neva Cornelson & Sharon Steiner, Dr. Steven Saliterman & Dr. Robert Ganz, and the staffs of Methodist Hospital and Jones Harrison Residence. Memorial Services will be held Friday, Nov. 8th, 2PM at JONES HARRISON, 3700 Cedar Lake Ave, Mpls, and Saturday, Nov. 23rd, 2PM at FIRST METHODIST CHURCH of South Miami, 6565 Red Road, Coral Gables, FL. Her words: 'I have had a long and wonderful life and am more than ready to meet my God.'
