Marcey C Johnston (1946-2026) Marcey Cheryl Johnston, 80, of New Brighton, Minnesota entered Eternal Life on July 20, 2026. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 59 years, Robert, and the loving matriarch of the family they created. She viewed her role of mother and grandmother as a vocation and often expressed gratitude for having been able to stay home to raise her daughters. Her advice on raising children was simple: "Be there!" She was a lifelong learner with a passion for arts and cultural activities. She taught her family to seek knowledge and remain curious about the world. Family trips often included an assigned topic for each child to research and report about to the family. Marcey loved to read and always made sure her children and grandchildren had a fresh supply of library books. She enjoyed attending the symphony and could whistle a Broadway show tune with gusto. Known for her thoughtfulness and countless acts of kindness, her family has been comforted by the many stories shared about the way she made others feel special. Through handwritten notes, phone calls, dinner invitations, and boxes of her homemade caramels, she quietly extended grace. She loved volunteering at church, knitting hats for the homeless, baking cookies for the helpful young man at the Verizon store, and writing a personal paragraph in every Christmas card she sent. She was an elegant and stoic woman who held her family to high standards and taught them how to do things the right way. Condiments must never be served from the bottle. Christmas cards should be mailed out on December 15th. A well-written thank you note must be promptly sent. Plastic silverware is not an acceptable choice if a dishwasher is available. Toenails should always be polished, and red is the best color. She enjoyed many opportunities to travel, both near and far. Nothing pleased her more than supporting her grandchildren by attending their sporting events and visiting their college campuses. Her favorite destination was Tucson, Arizona where she formed many treasured friendships. She loved organizing a neighborhood potluck, watching the Santa Catalina mountains turn pink in the evening, said the smell of creosote after a rain nearly brought her to tears, and could explain how rodeo scoring works to any newcomer. Her passing has left her family with profound grief, but she prepared them well for her journey to heaven. They have all they need and are finding strength in one another and in their faith. Marcey is preceded in death by mother, Janet Chapman and father, Foster Chapman Jr.; brother, James Chapman. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Camille (David) Weier, Celine (Morgan) Donohue, and Emily (Matt) Holton; 10 grandchildren, Zach, Seamus, Cecilia, Liam, Isadora, Harrison, Muzzy, Remya, Thomas, and Joey; great-grandaughter, Ada; brothers, Bill and Paul Chapman; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation 4:00-7:00PM Wednesday, August 5 at Washburn-McReavy, Shoreview Chapel, 515 Hwy 96 W., Shoreview. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM Thursday, August 6 (visitation begins at 10:00AM) at Church of St. William, 6120 5th St. NE, Fridley. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis, MN or Sister Jose Women's Center in Tucson, AZ.
