Mae Sheehy

Sheehy, Mae (born Josephine Mae Daniels) passed away peacefully on September 2, culminating her amazing life. Mae was born on May 7, 1924 in Duluth, Minnesota, the second of four children of Annabelle and Treffle Daniels. She attended Saint Jean de Baptiste High School, where she graduated as valedictorian. After attending Young and Hursch Business School, she worked for the U.S. Office of Price Administration, which oversaw rationing during WWII. After the war, she moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for the Veteran's Administration, and soon met and fell in love with Robert Patrick Sheehy, a handsome Irishman from International Falls, Minnesota. They married in 1950 and brought eight children into the world over the ensuing years. When her husband died unexpectedly in 1964, she resiliently kept the family steady, raising her children with faith, patience, quiet strength, and endless love. Mae, always positive in the face of adversity, kind and gentle in her manners and guidance, led her children through high school, college, and beyond. Mae's humor, wit, and zest for life made for fun times over all her years. Although resources were scarce, she made a bountiful life of love for her children, and grandchildren. She found joy in all people, especially children. She had a gift for recognizing the uniqueness of each child; she remembered their particularities, and accepted each child and every person for their own humanity. She is loved by many, close and far, and will always be a source of strength and inspiration. Predeceased by her husband, Robert Patrick Sheehy and son, John Patrick Sheehy. Mae is survived by her devoted children: Sharmaine Wittsack (Lyle); Nythar (Katherine) Sheehy; Colleen Sheehy (Peter Murphy); Michelle Mae Halle (Erling); Theresa Sheehy; Francis Sheehy and James Sheehy (Leah); and daughter-in-law Kathleen Sheehy. She will be deeply missed by her 16 grandchildren, who will continue to be inspired by her warmth and love: Vanessa Johansson, Arne Johansson, Brigid Mae Murphy, Patrick Sheehy, Kevan Sheehy, Annie Rose Murphy, Madeline Mae Sheehy, Chris Halle, Marie Sheehy, Ellen Sheehy, Patricia Halle, Emmett Sheehy, Robert Sheehy, Audrey-Anna Scalici, Martin Scalici, and John Francis Sheehy, and her great grandchildren, Lilia Mae Brimer and Baby Boy Brimer and many other relatives. In heaven she joins her husband, sister Amanda Feiro, beloved son John Patrick Sheehy, and others who have passed before her. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 8 at Washburn-McReavy Edina.
