Lyndal Tremere Rieger

Lyndal Tremere Rieger passed away peacefully July 13, 2025 after a 12-year journey with Alzheimer's disease. Our family didn't know what this diagnosis would mean for Lyndal (mom) and our family. As Lyndal's memory continued to be challenged she would write down on little pieces of scrap paper all the things she wanted to remember about her life. Here is Lyndal's story: Lyndal Tremere Rieger was born March 28, 1936 to Dorcus and Allan Tremere in Huron, SD. Soon after the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Lyndal grew up in Sioux Falls where she graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Soon after her graduation the family moved to Rapid City, SD. She attended Black Hills Teachers College (now Black Hills State University) and graduated in 1958. She began teaching Kindergarten in New Castle, WY where she met her husband John Rieger. John was an electrician working on the school building. They were married at the Episcopal Church in New Castle, WY in 1961 and went on to have two children, Paul and Sheila. Lyndal retired after 42 years of teaching 2nd grade in the Rochester Public School system and became a paraprofessional for an additional 9 years. She last taught 2nd grade at Sunset Terrace Elementary School. As a school teacher Lyndal was a nurturing presence in the lives of many students. She was filled with compassion and had a desire to help others learn. When Lyndal's Alzheimer's disease became too much her writing ceased but her story continued. She spent her last 4 years in memory care in Minneapolis near her daughter Sheila (Bob), family, and friends. Besides the Rochester Public Schools you may remember Lyndal as a faithful member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Rochester Horseshoe Club, The Widowers Bowling League or you may have received one of her famous letters or cards. She was a woman of strength and love and enjoyed letting others know how much she appreciated them. Lyndal will be missed by many. Lyndal is survived by children Paul, Sheila (Bob), wonderful grandchildren, and an amazing great grandchild. Lyndal will also be leaving behind extended family who have been holding her in prayer for many years and will miss her very much. Lyndal is preceded in death by her husband John, brother Douglas, parents Allan and Dorcus, special friend Reuben Fenske and her faithful 4-legged friend Trixie, the dog who faithfully helped mom take 3 mile walks almost everyday.
