Lyle Harlan Swanson

Swanson, Lyle Harlan age 92 of Apple Valley passed away unexpectedly on May 14th 2020. Lyle is preceded in death by his "Sweetheart" wife Mary Swanson for almost 70 years of marriage. Lyle is also preceded in death by his son, Bruce; infant son; parents George, and Nora Swanson; sister, Elvina and brother-in-law Alf Vinje; mother and father-in-law, Vern and Thelma Crosby; brother-in-law, Jerry Crosby. Lyle is survived by daughter, Vicki Nesheim of Eagan; son, Steve Swanson of Plymouth; and daughter, Nancy (Gary) Sorenson of Faribault; 7 grandchildren, Kristy (Keith) Kes, Stephanie Swanson, Sarah Davis, Michael Nesheim, Derek (Laura) Sorenson, Sarah Nesheim and Jackie Swanson; 5 great grandchildren, River Olson, Landon, Lucas, Liam and Paisley Nesheim; sister, Shirlee (Edward) Roen, and many nephews. Lyle was born March 22nd, 1928. He met his future forever Sweetheart on Valentines Day in 1950. Four months later they were married on June 18th, 1950. This coming June they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage. Now, they are together again and will be holding hands watching over us. Lyle worked for 45 years as a Star Tribune pressman to provide for his wife and four children. He also served our country proudly as a MP in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi. Summers were spent camping and boating with children and grandchildren. He enjoyed 10 years living in Florida getting away from the cold Minnesota winters with his sweetheart, Mary. Lyle had been retired with his wife for 30 years and had made many beautiful memories traveling all around the states and abroad. After their travels they settled into Summerhill, a senior living building that they would call home for the next 17 years. Both Lyle and Mary had made many lasting friendships there. Lyle always lived a very active life, whether it was walking for miles down by the river banks or entering into the Senior Olympics at the age of 76 and earning 3 gold medals and one silver for various events. He had a very distinct passion for golfing which he enjoyed playing for many years with his wife, children and grandchildren. You would also find him watching MN Twins games at home with his wife, or reading the daily newspaper. If you knew him, he would always try to make you laugh and "pull your leg" with stories. Lyle was a true classic. A patriot. A First-Class man. Lyle will be dearly missed by those who were lucky enough to know him. May he rest in peace now, reunited with his beloved. A private service will be held for family. Due to Covid-19, Celebration of Life is postponed
