North Oaks, MN Louise P. Marta, 80 of Eagle River, MI died of lung cancer on Thursday, January 30th, 2014 at home in North Oaks, MN. Louise was born on May 20, 1933 at the family home in Kearsarge, MI, the daughter of Onni and Eva (Koski) Koopikka. She attended Wolverine grade school and graduated from Calumet High School, class of 1951. She worked as a secretary/stenographer for the FBI in Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, WI and Detroit, MI and later managed her own business of floral arrangements and interior decorations. She married John Marta on June 8, 1957 at Our Lady of the Pines church in Copper Harbor, MI. They resided in Michigan and Minnesota. She enjoyed tennis, alpine and cross-country skiing, camping, golf, and hiking. Louise was an avid sports fan, master gardener, and coached hockey. Rock collecting and polishing were a passion. Family and friends will miss her lively personal correspondence. A ready volunteer, she was active in her church, working on the Board and teaching religious classes; the PTA; League of Women Voters; and served as an election judge. She was a member and President of both the North Oaks Garden Club and the North Oaks Children's Hospital Guild II. Volunteer work was done for Stella del Nord (Oral history recording) and the Keweenaw County Historical Society. Her greatest attributes were her love of family and friends, strong moral beliefs, a great sense of humor, and being a friend for life. She personified SISU. Louise was a Yooper who relished the Copper Country of the upper peninsula of Michigan and its people. Surviving are her husband John Marta of Eagle River, MI, son Michael (Teresa Budzynski) of White Bear Lake, MN, daughter Michele Maneri of Seattle, WA, daughter Lisa Marta of Scandia, MN, son David (Pamela Wikstrom) of White Bear Lake, grandchildren Michele and Louise Maneri, Joseph, Daniel and John Marta. Sister Kay Watson of Barryton, MI and brother-in-law Arthur Wheeler of Kearsarge, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks Judith Levitan, M.D., Minnesota Oncology staff, Abbott Northwestern Hospital staff, Heartland Hospice personnel (especially Cindy Olson) and night care givers Ellie, Sue and Alissa for their excellent and compassionate care. Visitation will be on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home in Shoreview, MN. The funeral will be held at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 4880 Hodgson Rd.
