Louisa Carlson Walker

Louisa Williams Walker was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on May 26, 1936, to Grayson Martin and Hilda Johnson Williams. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, she attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. She had an adventurous spirit and after 2 years of college, traveled halfway across the country to Minnesota to work at Honeywell-a journey that would forever shape the course of her life. In Minnesota, Louisa met Bradley John Walker, a widower with three children. At just 25 years old, she embraced not only marriage but motherhood, becoming a devoted wife and lovingly adopting Barb, Kathy, and John as her own. The family became complete four years later after the births of Melissa and Joe. Louisa was a loving and gentle soul who treasured her family, her friends and her Lord. In addition to taking care of her family, she was active in volunteer work at her churches, the children's schools, nursing homes, the MN Landscape Arboretum and the P.E.O. Sisterhood (an organization dedicated to helping women pursue their educational dreams). Louisa herself was a lifelong learner. She was an avid reader of history, taught herself how to fix anything and everything, and was always taking art classes and creating beautiful artwork. She loved crafting, needlework and sewing, creating treasured pieces for her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening and had beautiful flower beds and a huge vegetable garden, freezing and canning vegetables for her family to enjoy all winter long. More than anything, Louisa loved her family. She delighted in being "Mom," "Grandma," "Nama Lu" and "Gigi," roles she embraced with endless warmth, wisdom, and care. Her love was steady, unconditional, and ever-present. Louisa was preceded in death by her loving husband Brad, her parents, brother Grayson and sister Suzanne. She is survived by her children: Barb, Kathy (David), John, Melissa (Pete), Joe (Lauren); her grandchildren Ben, Dan (Lizzy), Anya (Madeline), Alec, Sydney (Brandon), Erin (Kevin), Megan, Adam; seven great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Though we miss her deeply, we find comfort in knowing her love remains with us in the lessons she taught, the traditions she created, the beauty she cultivated, and the countless ways she cared for those she loved. We will forever carry her in our hearts. A special thank you to Riley Crossing Senior Living for their loving care of Louisa and our family.
