Lorraine F. Hiebert

LORRAINE F. HIEBERT Lorraine was born on January 30, 1930, and just celebrated her 94th birthday. She grew up in St. James, MN. with 2 sisters, Joyce and LaVonne, a brother Bill, and her parents Peter and Frances Heppner. In June 1948 she married Eldon and together they had 4 children. They moved from Mountain Lake, MN to Eden Prairie where they lived for 63 years. Many holidays and family times were enjoyed at their house. Lorraine loved gardening and taking care of the yard. She spent hours every summer planning, planting, weeding and watering her flowers. As she stood holding a hose over her flowers, she took in all the birds, butterflies and people driving by. Neighbors especially admired the display of tulips every spring. In the fall no leaf lasted very long on her yard as they were removed as quickly as they fell. When Christmas rolled around everyone looked forward to enjoying her plates of Christmas cookies. She started baking in November and passed out cookies and bars the entire month of December. She loved making birthdays special with cakes, gifts and personal touches. Raising 4 children took most of her time. As they got older, she did housecleaning for 2 families for many years. They became much more than employers. As good friends, she often spent more time visiting than cleaning. Lorraine loved reading and always had a stack of books ready next to her couch. To pass winter days she worked on jig saw puzzles with Eldon. The finished puzzles were framed and hung on the family room wall. She also passed time by completing stacks of word find books. As she sat on her couch, she loved gazing out the window at the clouds. She would remark about how fascinating and soothing they were. In the summer she followed the Mn Twins, watching as many games as she could. She especially had fun watching World Series games with Eldon and Christopher. Lorraine started her volunteering at Faith Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School teacher and later worked in the office helping with paperwork. Lorraine is survived by her sister, LaVonne, children; Carol (Jim) Peggy (Dave) Dale and Larry, grandchildren; Christopher, Emily (Jeff), Katie, Lindsey (Ed), Anna, Melissa (Jeremy),Tyler (Sherry) and great grandchildren; Norah, Ruby, Emmett, Cooper, Emma, Cole and Booker; many nieces and nephews, and a dear lifelong friend, Kay. Lorraine was really lost after Eldon passed in 2011 and often would remark that she wanted to be with him. After several years struggling with dementia her wish was fulfilled. Visitation will be on Sunday February 18th 12-2pm. Washburn McReavy, 7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie. A private interment is planned. Memorials can be directed to Shakopee Friendship Manor.
