Linda Lee Henkel

Beloved Wife, Mother Grandmother Age 66, of Poplar Grove, IL, formerly of Roseville, MN, entered her eternal Home on Friday, June 10, 2011 after a 3 ½ month illness. She was born on August 25, 1944, in Burlington, WI, to Joseph and Jeanette (Wertz) Rausch and was raised in Wilmot, WI. After graduating from Doctor Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN), she taught at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Fort Atkinson, WI and at Redemption Lutheran School in Milwaukee, WI, before marrying Carl Henkel on June 24, 1973, at Redemption Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Linda is survived by her husband, Carl of Poplar Grove, IL; four children, Kara (Michael) Peek of Tucson, AZ, Keri (Kevin) Stifter of Cottage Grove, MN, Kevin (Jessica) Henkel of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kory Henkel of Burnsville, MN; five grandchildren, Athena, Eric, Kaleb, Grace, and Gabriel; her mother, Jeanette (Tuddie) Rausch of Wilmot, WI; one sister, Beverly Boughton of Janesville, WI; nieces, Erin, Hannah, and Abby; nephew, Brett; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Rausch. Linda taught Kindergarten for more than twenty years at St. John Lutheran School in St. Paul, MN, and faithfully and joyfully served her Lord Jesus as an organist, Sunday School and VBS director and teacher, and in a host of other capacities while her husband served as pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo, MN; St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James, MN; Ascension Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN; Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN; and Hope Lutheran Church in Belvidere, IL. She also served at her husband's side for a year in Cameroon, Africa. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 765 Margaret Street, St. Paul, MN, on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 2:00pm with Pastors David Ponath and Marcus Birkholz officiating. Visitation will be at the Holcomb Henry Boom Purcell Funeral Home, 536 N Snelling Ave, St. Paul, MN from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, and for one hour at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Church cemetery in Menomonie, WI on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family's choice which includes Cameroon Ministry (for the training of a new seminary class,) and St. Croix Lutheran High School.
