Leonard R. Yochim

Leonard Yochim was born December 16, 1932, baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minnesota and passed away January 28, 2025 with daughter, Marlene and granddaughter, Jillian at his bedside. Survived by daughter, Marlene Yochim; son, Stephen (Kiana) Yochim; grandchildren, Jillian (Matt) Erzar, Jacob (Pam) Huwe, Trevor, Nena and Natalie Yochim; great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Nolan Erzar, Theodosia Huwe; brother, Larry, cousins, nieces and nephews, and canine pal Paco. Preceded in death by parents, Tryphena (Haley) and Alexander Yochim; son, Alan Yochim, brothers Vern and Theodore, sister-in-law, Ila. Graduate of Hoffman, Minnesota High School, New Mexico Highlands University, and Minnesota School of Business. Honorably discharged 4 year veteran U.S. Air Force. Retired following 40 year employment with Hennepin County as a Court Reporter. Avid outdoorsman, member of several environmental and conservation groups. Leonard enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the cabin and "the shack". Anyone that knew Lenny, knew him to be a man of few words. When he did talk, it was usually to tell a joke or a really big fish story! "Grandpa Lenny" was Jill and Jake's no. 1 fan at their ball games from t-ball through college sport careers. He was "Papa Len" to Trevor, Nena and Natalie and he spent many hours with them at Steve and Kiana's home in Andover. He had season tickets to Minnesota Gophers Basketball at the "barn" for many years and often brought his children and grandchildren with him to the games. If there was a spread of more than 10 points by the last quarter, he hustled them out murmuring "got to beat the traffic"! He loved Country Music, especially Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and, later, John Prine. Though his hunting, fishing, and trapping adventures were mostly with his sons, Stephen and Alan and other outdoorsmen in the family, he shared his love of music with his daughter Marlene. They went to concerts together and watched music videos between football and basketball games.
