LaVerne Carol Dillon Born, December 15th, 1931 to Knute & Amanda (Benson) Drange. Died peacefully after a battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) on August 8, 2024, "Safe in the arms of Jesus". She is survived by, sons; Mark (Paula), Mike (Edie), Tim (Kelly) and daughter; LeAnne (Jonathan) Toren, Grandchildren; Matthew J. Dillon PhD, Marcia (Skyler) Hunt, Alexandra Dillon, Chelsea Dillon, Brady (Elexa) Dillon, Samantha Dillon, Maria Dillon, Timothy Dillon, Joseph (Emily) Dillon, Julianna (Casey) Oeffling, and Janessa Dillon. Great-grandchildren; William, Keira, Kyler, Kayden, Kensleigh, Kayliana, Bailey, Briella, Elijah, Bonnie, Ethan, Rosalie, Landon, Carson, Riley, Hayley, Charlotte, Joseph, Layla, Gabriel & Leo. Sister-in-law; Shirley Dillon, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Don, parents and her siblings; Kenneth, Harold, Arnie, Earl and Arlene. LaVerne was born in her family's home in south Minneapolis. She was baptized at the Old Trinity Lutheran church near Augsburg College. She grew up at Trintiy Lutheran of Minnehaha Falls. As a child, she would sing solos and duets with her sister at Union Gospel Mission, Marie Sandvik Center and Holiness Mission. Her dad always took them and stayed while their mom played the piano. In high school she was involved in choirs and a sextet that included two of Don's cousins. She graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1949 where she met the love of her life, Don Dillon. They married Sept 6, 1952. Five years later the babies started coming, three boys and a girl. This was the beginning of a beautiful family that was such a blessing to her. She was a wonderful homemaker and it wasn't until the last child started school that she got a job as a church secretary at Trinity. She was very active there as a Sunday School Teacher, Witness by Fellowship Leader, Camp counselor and Dean at Camp Patmos, Member of the Pathfinders and Director of the Cherub Choir for ten years. She and Don were founding members of Living Word Lutheran Church in Eagan since 1984. To honor the infallible Word of God was so important to her. She wanted to make sure future generations knew the truth about God and that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. She was very involved in music and Women's Mission Fellowship. Since she was a little girl, LaVerne just wanted to love Jesus and share that message with everyone she met. She loved singing right up to the end. She enjoyed going to craft boutiques with her daughter, camping with her family and traveling to Seattle, WA. Her favorite time was when her family would all be together. Nothing would make her happier. A special thank you to the care givers from Ebenezer Ridges Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for taking such loving care of our momma during her final 2 ½ months. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 18th from 4-7 pm at Washburn-McReavy Nokomis Park, 1838 E Minnehaha Pkwy. The Celebration of Life service will be Monday, August 19th at 10 am at Living Word Lutheran Church, 4300 Nicols Rd in Eagan. Visitation will be one hour prior. Memorials preferred to Living Word Lutheran Church, Camp Patmos or any Missions fund of your choice. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
