LASZLO GYORGY FULOP 11/13/1934 - 04/25/2024 89 YEARS Died peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family. Born in Ujkecske, Hungary. Preceded in death by parents -Pal and Irma (nee Rozsa). Siblings: Katalin Gallo (Arpad), Pal Fulop (Magdalena), Gyorgy Fulop (Baiba), and son, Paul George Fulop; niece- Maria Gallo. Survived by wife, Agnes Fulop (nee Sylvester); Children: Angela Farris, Zsuzsa Larson (Larry). Grandchildren: Brandon Woldsnes (Melissa), Samuel Woldsnes, Ellen Larson, George Larson (Rose) and Lauren Larson. Great grandchild, Charlotte Woldsnes. Katica Deli, niece. Born and raised in Hungary in Tiszakecske, Marmarossziget, and Szentendre. Laszlo survived WWII and the invasion of the Soviet Union which made Hungary a part of the eastern Soviet bloc. Under communist rule, post high-school men were placed in military forced-labor to work in the coal mines in Komlo. Laszlo was a part of the 1956 Hungarian Freedom Fighters uprising and he was able to escape 1/27/1957 to Vienna, Austria where he began architectural studies. A year later, Laszlo moved to Minneapolis and continued studying architecture and received his degree from the University of Minnesota. After working in private firms, Laszlo became the Director of Physical planning for the University of Minnesota 1975-1983. Then the Director of planning at the University of Wisconsin 1983-1990. Laszlo was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations; namely, the Minnesota Hungarians where he held many positions including President, secretary, and public relations. He was a member of the Hungarian American Coalition (HAC) and was elected the vice-president. He was also the President of the Hungarian Community of Friends (MBK). Laszlo was also an avid horseman, owning and showing many horses throughout the years, even as a child in Maramorossziget. He also sat on the Minnesota Arabian Horse Association board of directors, the Minnesota Half-Arabian Horse Association, and Region X board of directors, and was a Horse show judge for many years as well. As a prolific writer, Laszlo published many books: A book of poems included Hungarian folk artwork by his brother, Pal. One of his original poems is below. He wrote about his childhood and other experiences in Hungary and his travels to the USA. Laszlo received many awards and accolades. Of note, 9/29/2008 he was the recipient of the Hungarian Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, presented in person by the Hungarian Secretary of State, Kinga Goncz. Laszlo will be missed by all that knew him. We will always carry him in our hearts.
