Lanny Roy Peissig

Lanny R. Peissig Lanny R. Peissig, age 81, formerly of New Brighton and Roseville, MN, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026. Lanny was born on January 17, 1945, in Aurora, IL, one of seven children of Kenneth and Lucille (Tauchen) Peissig. He grew up on their family farm in Shawano, WI. On November 30, 1968, he was united in marriage to Karen (Ziemer) at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, WI. They raised two children and were married for 57 years. Lanny attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree. He also served in the Air Force for four years after graduating college. He was employed for 33 years with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency working in water quality and landfill remediation. Lanny was very giving of his time as an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights, MN and was an elder, drove for Meals on Wheels, and helped with the church finances counting money. He also served as an AARP Tax Aide for seven years, doing taxes for the elderly. Lanny was also an active member of Applewood Pointe of Langton Lake Roseville and was head of the Technology Committee and assisted with the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. One of Lanny's favorite activities was spending time at his cabin in Maple Lake, MN where he enjoyed boating and fishing. After retiring, he traveled to Port Aransas, TX with his wife to escape the MN winters. He was also talented at wood carving and could be found on Sunday watching the Green Bay Packers football team. Lanny also really enjoyed attending his grandsons' sporting and musical events. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lucille; sister, Veranne Loop; brother, Larry Peissig. He is survived by his wife, Karen; two children, Tami Peissig (Colin Farr) and Pam (Chuck) Cartony; two grandsons, Grady and Gavin Cartony; siblings Jim (Paula) Peissig, Al (Chin Kuei) Peissig, Patt (Russ) Sette, and Ken Peissig and many other family members. Lanny was known for his great smile and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed by many friends and family. A memorial service for Lanny will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church at 4101 Washington St NE, Columbia Heights, MN. Visitation will begin at St. Matthew at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the hour of service. A private interment for the family will take place in the afternoon. Memorials can be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Washburn-McReavy Hillside in Minneapolis is assisting the family with arrangements.
