Dr. Kyle Alexander Wilson

Dr. Kyle Alexander Wilson of Centerville went to be with his Lord on June 26, 2020. He passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Kyle was born in Hinckley, OH, on September 22, 1926, to James and Mallie Wilson. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the service in 1945. He served in the army as a staff sergeant and then he enrolled in Ohio State University. Because of his involvement with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship on campus, his love for the Word of God grew and he decided to go into ministry. He moved to Minneapolis to attend Northwestern College and Seminary, and it was there that he met Pauline Hutchens. They fell in love on a Greyhound bus as they were on a college choir tour and were married on August 20,1948. Kyle earned a B.A. and his ordination, an M.A. in Divinity, and later earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy in Leadership and Human Behavior from United States International University. Throughout the years, Kyle became a well-loved and influential minister with youth and music in churches in Michigan, Colorado, California, and Minnesota, as well as at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul. At Northwestern, he served as Dean of Students, Campus Pastor, Director of NWC Male Chorus, and Director of Mission Ministries where he led short-term mission trips with teams in 15 countries. In 1998, Kyle was instrumental in the establishment of the Poland Evangelical Mission, enabling local church leaders, camps, and Bible school ministries to receive generous financial and other needed ministry support. His heart and support for missions has extended around the world. He will always be remembered for his love of gardening. But even more so for his love of God and his love for people Kyle is survived by his twin sister, Ila Marie, his five children: Larry (Kay) of El Cajon, CA; Janie (Chris) d'Avignon of La Mesa, CA; Paul (Roxanne) of Morelos, Mexico; Jill (Greg) Lund of Frederic, WI; and Dawn (Lee) Shelton of Centerville, MN. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his dear wife in 2016. A celebration of Kyle’s life is planned for Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Free Church, 2696 Hazelwood Street, Maplewood, MN 55109. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. A private service for burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Washburn-McReavy Funeral Services will be handling arrangements. Memorial gifts may be sent care of First Evangelical Free Church for the El Monte camping ministry in Mexico. Please make checks payable to WEC International.
