In Loving Memory of Kyle David Totoe September 7, 2011 - April 18, 2026 Kyle David Totoe, beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, friend and radiant light to all who knew him, returned to his Maker on April 18, 2026, at 8:20 p.m., surrounded by the immense love of his family. Born on September 7, 2011, at 1:11 p.m., Kyle entered this world with a sweetness and purity that would define his fourteen years. Though he was born with 22q deletion syndrome, Kyle's life was never defined by a diagnosis, but by an extraordinary capacity for joy, perseverance and unconditional love. He was the bravest soul his family has ever known, a boy who beat the odds, showed quiet strength through multiple surgeries and countless interventions and approached every obstacle as if it were merely a step on his path to taking flight. A Life of Simple Joy and Super Strength To know Kyle was to love him. Whether he was walking into a classroom or a hospital room, his presence was infectious. He lived a simple life, finding profound happiness in the things he loved and the people who held him dear. He was a boy of absolute truth, he could never lie, and his heart was so tender that he would offer a sincere apology for the smallest things, turning around almost immediately to say he was sorry and mean every word of it. He reached a level of grace and honesty that few of us ever attain. His father's favorite song for him - Super Kyle, Super Kyle, Super Kyle, Taking Flight, Woohoo - was more than just a melody. It was the way Kyle lived. He faced every challenge with a beaming smile and a spirit that simply refused to be stopped. In the final chapter of his life, even in the quietest moments, he made himself known. He asked for ice. He looked back at the people who loved him. He let everyone in that room know he was still right there, still present, still himself - giving a thumbs up or a side eye! Kyle knew exactly what he wanted to be when he grew up. Ask him any day, in any season of his life, and the answer never changed - a fireman. It was not a childhood whim but a calling he held with quiet consistency and pride. That devotion made perfect sense to everyone who knew his story. In one of the harder chapters of his early years, when Kyle needed help and 911 was called, it was the firemen who arrived first, steady and strong, to stabilize him and care for him. He never forgot them. He never stopped wanting to be them. His mother Maxine made sure that the chromosome that made Kyle uniquely himself was never a source of sadness but a reason to celebrate. Every year she marked the occasion of 22q Deletion Awareness with a family celebration that was entirely Kyle, joyful, musical and full of love. She wrote a song just for him: We are going to the zoo, for 22q, to celebrate who? Kyle, that's who! He loved it every time. That was Maxine's gift to her son, the certainty that every part of him, every chromosome, every complexity and every beautiful detail of who he was, was worth singing about. When words were difficult, Kyle found a voice that spoke louder than any sentence could, a simple thumbs up to let his family know he was okay, that he felt their love and that he was with them every step of the way. That gesture became his signature. It was Kyle distilled to his essence, simple, honest, and full of heart. Loved by His Community Kyle was embraced and celebrated by communities that recognized how extraordinary he was. The Eden Prairie School community loved and cared for Kyle with dedication and tenderness. His teachers and classmates knew what his family knew, that being in his presence was a gift. Everyone who taught him and walked alongside him remembered him as a beautiful soul who made their lives richer simply by being in them. At Grace Church, Kyle was held in love, prayer and faithful community through every season of his life. Within that church family, the Barnabas ministry, devoted to individuals with special needs, gave Kyle an environment where he could truly thrive. He was seen there not for what he could not do, but for everything he was. That community walked with him, celebrated him and gave him space to be fully and joyfully himself. Grace Church showed up in the hard moments and the beautiful ones, and they will carry his memory forward with the same devotion they showed him in life. A Cherished Brother and Son Kyle was the best friend a person could ask for, the best son a parent could hope for, and the best brother his siblings could ever have. To his brothers Shane and Ryan, he was fun, amazing, cool, loved, kind, gentle, nice, smart, and helpful - a constant companion who left an indelible mark on their hearts. To his parents he was a gift entrusted by God and the greatest honor of their lives. Kyle is deeply loved and survived by his parents, Thomas and Maxine Totoe, and his brothers, Shane and Ryan Totoe. He is cherished by his grandmothers, Mama Pat and Grandma Evelyn, his uncles Robert, David and Eddie, his aunties Judith, Maud, Joana, EveEve and Dromi, his aunties-in-law Amy and Grace and his many cousins, all of whom celebrated his life and supported him through every step of his journey. He is held in love by his Grace Church family, the Eden Prairie School community and all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Courage and Grace We rest in the promise that Kyle is now whole, free from every obstacle, and held in the arms of the One who made him. The boy who beamed when his father sang to him is beaming still, somewhere beyond what we can see, taking flight. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18 Our Kyle will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with family and close friends on April 24 at 3:00 PM at Eden Prairie Cemetery. Funeral will be on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 1:30-2:30PM at Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel, followed by burial at the Eden Prairie Cemetery at 3:00PM. Memorial service for Kyle will be on Friday, May 15, 2026. With visitation at 2:00PM, Celebration of Life at 3:00PM and refreshments at 4:00PM all at Grace Church, Eden Prairie. All whose lives were touched by Kyle's beautiful soul are welcome to join in honoring the boy who taught us how to see beauty in the smallest moments, how to love without conditions and how to face every single day with joy.
