Kuo Ying Age 92 of Dellwood, MN. Passed away July 31, 2023. We celebrate the extraordinary life of Kuo Ying Chang, a woman whose resilience and grace has touched us all. As a wife, other, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she not only endured but triumphed over adversities such as war, poverty, and profound loss, guiding her family to love, laughter, and a peaceful existence. Born on January 2nd, 1931, in Ju Xian, Shandong, China to Jia Zhen Wang and Xiou Fong Song Wang, Kuo Ying's early life was marked by tragedy. Witnessing the cruel execution of her father, a respected school principal, she faced the world's harsh realities at a tender age. Driven from her hometown at 16, she found refuge in the Shandong mountains with her courageous mother and five siblings. At the age of 18, Kuo Ying's life took a hopeful turn when she met Shao Ting Chang, a brave young soldier. Their love blossomed amidst chaos, leading them to escape to Taiwan in 1949. There, they confronted new challenges, facing scarcity and a demanding family patriarch, but Kuo Ying's unshakable strength and grace shone through. She gave life to seven children, and though the loss of a young son lingered in her heart, she nurtured Betty, Diana, Tom, Jenny, Julie, and Steve with unwavering love and wisdom. In 1981, an opportunity to change the destiny of the Chang family arose when they accepted an invitation from their second eldest daughter, Diana, to move to the United States. This marked the beginning of a prosperous new chapter, filled with success and joy. Kuo Ying's American journey allowed her to witness the thriving of 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Her unique legacy, a blend of Chinese resilience and American opportunity, continues to resonate and inspire. Those privileged to have known her will forever cherish memories of her infectious laughter, her skill and enjoyment in playing Mah Jong, and the culinary traditions and wisdom she lovingly passed down. Kuo Ying's earthly journey concluded peacefully on July 31st, 2023, surrounded by the love and care of her daughter Julie, son-in-law Xin, close family, and attentive nurses. Her memory, a beacon of strength and kindness, will endure in the hearts of all who knew her, and her values will continue to guide the family for generations to come. Her spirit, filled with joy and compassion, leaves a legacy that transcends time. Preceded in death by husband, Hsiao Ting Chang. Survived by children, Hsin Chien Wang, Hsin Ming Chang, Shan Chun Chang, Tsui Hua Mcatee, Juei Hua Chang, Jung Hua Chang; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Mau Chun Wang; nieces and nephews. Funeral Service 11 AM Saturday, August 5th (visitation 10-11AM) at Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home, 515 Hwy 96 W., Shoreview. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.
