Kristine Gelain Rafshol

Kristine Gelain Rafshol of Minneapolis Minnesota passed away on July 15, 2022. She was born on June 3, 1943 in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Anne and Sverre Lien, the youngest of four children. During her early years the family lived on a farm in Lyon County, west of Cottonwood, Minnesota. In 1953, they moved to a farm near Milaca, Minnesota where she graduated from Milaca High School. She moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended Minneapolis Vocational Evening School and Technical Institute. She developed her first career in the Administrative Offices of IDS, employed there for over 30 years. She became a successful realtor in her second career, taking great joy in helping her clients. Kristine met her husband Kristian at the local Sons of Norway Lodge and they were married in 1968 at Mindekirken Norwegian Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They made their home in South Minneapolis. Kristine and Kristian were long-time members of Mindekirken. She was active in the church and enjoyed volunteering for many events while building a vast network of friends. Kristine and Kristian made many trips to Kristian's childhood homeland of Nordfjord, Norway. Kristine's father's birthplace was Etnedal, Valdres and she was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Their many trips to Norway provided Kristine the opportunity to visit her ancestral homeland and relatives as well. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, needlework, cooking and baking. Her krumkake was a popular treat for all at Yule Tide! She enjoyed the outdoors as she and Kristian were avid cross country skiers. She had a great affection for animals, especially her cats Katrina and Kari. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kristian; sister Gladys Lien Oftedal and brother-in-law George; brother Selvin and sister-in-law Carolyn; brother Archie Lien and niece Rebecca Lien. She is survived by nieces Shirley Oftedal Gibson of Winters, California; Nancy Oftedal Ogan and husband Marc of Free Union, Virginia. Nephews David Lien and wife Kathy of Bock, Minnesota; Daniel Lien and Mark King of Bradbury, California. Many Great and Great-Great nieces and nephews. And other relatives and friends both here and in Norway. She will be sadly missed by both family and friends. A memorial service for Kristine will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mindekirken Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, 21st Street East at 10th Ave S., Minneapolis, Minnesota.
