Kevin John Kolosky

Kevin John Kolosky was born in Redwood Falls, MN on December 7th , 1952, to Robert F. and Carol V. Kolosky. At the time Kevin's father, Robert, was attending dental school at the University of Minnesota, and the couple was visiting Carol's relatives in Morgan and Franklin, Minnesota. Interestingly, Kevin has a cousin named Kevin who was born on the same day in the same hospital in Redwood Falls. Kevin is the first born of Robert and Carol and has 8 other siblings: Kerry, Nathan, Jeff, Mary, Robert Jr., John, and Cara, and Tammy. Upon Robert's completion of dental school, the couple moved to Barnum Minnesota just up the road a few miles from where Robert grew up in Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota. There Robert set up his first dental practice. Soon he moved his dental practice just a few miles away to Willow River, MN. Consequently, Kevin attended grade school at Strugeon Lake, Willow River, and Moose Lake, MN before graduating from Moose Lake Highschool in June of 1970. From Moose Lake, Kevin went on to attend Moorhead State College for one year. He then worked for a year before enrolling at St. Thomas College and attended there for one year. From there Kevin continued on to attend Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA for one year. He then went on to enlist in the United States Navy and served for 3 years, the last 2 years of his service were spent in the legal office on board the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence CV-62, which made two 6-month cruises to the Mediterranean Sea. After his time in the service, Kevin enrolled in Mankato State College and attended there until he graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1981. Kevin worked in the accounting field for a while and during this time he met a registered nurse by the name of Linda Wolpern. The couple began dating and went on to be married on Halloween day in 1986 in Linda's hometown of Belle Plaine, MN. The couple made their first home in an apartment in South Minneapolis. Kevin did some accounting and photography work for a short time before getting the idea to attend law school. Kevin began enrollment at William Mitchell College of Law in the fall of 1990. He graduated Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor degree on January 9th, 1994. Soon thereafter Kevin passed the Bar exam on his first try and was granted a license to practice law in the state of Minnesota. During his early years in practice Kevin developed an expertise in family law and later went on to donate hundreds of hours of pro bono work to clients in need through the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis, the Volunteer Lawyers Network, and the Legal Assistance of Dakota County. During his time assisting Dakota County, he also served on their ethics committee. His work led to many written and verbal comments from judges such as, "what is particularly impressive is your commitment to providing meaningful access to justice" and "undoubtedly, each party will continue to struggle with the challenges of life, however, because of your advocacy and counsel they each are far better prepared to establish new lives as self-reliant individuals". Kevin had a love for photography; he photographed many weddings and traveled with his cameras taking many pictures of the interesting places he visited throughout the U.S. and Canada. His favorite place was Yosemite, where he spent hours in Ansel Adams gallery. Kevin visited Yosemite more than 20 times. He also loved Cody, Wyoming; in the month of May the big horn sheep and elk are ready for their best photos. Most of all Kevin loved the Grand Tetons and said he liked to place his tripod in the same spot Ansel did. Kevin loved to fish, hunt, and collect books.
