Kerry Scott Nelson November 20, 1944 - July 19, 2025 Kerry Scott Nelson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at 80 years old. Kerry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 20, 1944, to Ralph and Estelle Nelson. He grew up in Columbia Heights, spending his summers working at his family's farm in western Minnesota, and was a proud Eagle Scout and sport enthusiast. Kerry graduated from Columbia Heights High School before attending Hamline University, where he earned a degree in Physics. He went on to complete a master's degree in Physics and Mathematics at Iowa State University - where he also met the love of his life, Patty. The two were married in February of 1968 and recently celebrated 57 years together. Kerry built a long and successful career at 3M, where he worked for over 30 years. Known for his intelligence, creativity, and quiet determination, he earned numerous patents and eventually rose to a director-level role before retiring in 2004. In retirement, Kerry embraced the things he loved most: long days of fishing at Ten Mile Lake, peaceful rounds of golf, and the satisfaction of solving a tough crossword or puzzle. He found joy in the outdoors, in the company of his family, and in the small, meaningful moments of everyday life. His curiosity, humility, and dry sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Kerry is survived by his devoted wife, Patty; his children Mark (Leah), Amy (Chad), and Cyndi (Steve); and his nine beloved grandchildren: Caleb, Brady, Jackson, Davis, Alli, Edda, Maddie, Sylvie, and Stella. He also leaves behind his dear siblings Bruce (Barb), Doug, and Val, along with sisters-in-law Sandy (Clair), Nancy (Tony), and Terry, and many nieces and nephews. Kerry's quiet wisdom, steadfast love, and gentle presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m and a luncheon on Monday, July 28, 2025, at: Washburn-McReavy Shoreview Chapel. 515 Hwy 96W, Shoreview, MN 55126.
