Kenneth John Wencl

Kenneth John Wencl age 91 of Chanhassen, MN passed away Oct. 14, 2023 surrounded by family and under the loving care of the care givers at Riley Crossing Sr. Living. Ken was born on April 25, 1932 in Rose Creek, Minnesota. Ken met Garnita (Skip) Ann Wencl from Cresco, Iowa and they were married February 22, 1955. They celebrated 68 years of marriage. He lost his wife, Skip two months ago, which broke his heart. Ken loved being with his family, he always looked forward to their visits. He was an avid motorcycle rider. He enjoyed riding with the Christian Motorcycle Club and children, Kim, Mike and Ken. He rode his motorcycle through the US, Mexico and Europe. Fishing was a big part of Ken's life, he was always on the hunt looking for the best lake to catch the "big ones". He moved from Richfield to Chanhassen in 2000 and built a new home on Lake Susan, enjoying the lake, nature and fishing. He was a man who enjoyed travel, always planning another trip whether a fishing trip to Canada, a motorcycle trip with his sons, Mike, Ken and friends or camping in his RV. He loved Blues music and was a regular at Blues events around the country, his favorite song was "Flip Flop and Fly." which he requested often from the band. He served in the U.S. army and was an active member of the Chanhassen VFW. Ken was a career railroad man, he worked for the Milwaukee Road and The Burlington Northern Railway. He started at the age of 15 working at the local train depots as a telegraph operator and worked his way up to a billing management until retirement at age 57. He served on the board of Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District for 10 years, protecting the wildlife and water quality of the watershed. He was honored by the City of Chanhassen with a personalized bench on the south side walking trail of Lake Susan in recognition of his commitment to the protection of our lakes, streams and wetlands. Survived by daughter, Kim (Norm) Grant and sons, Michael (Laili) and Kenneth Wencl; grandchildren, Mariah (Grant) Giersdorf, Callie (Grant) Johnson, Derek Grant, Jae Wencl, Josh Wencl, Art Wencl, Angelina Wencl, Ian Wencl and Neva Wencl; great grandchildren, Drew Giersdorf, Mia Giersdorf, Claire Johnson, Emma Johnson, Ashlyn Ricigliano, Greyson Ricigliano, Lenny Wencl and Gus Wencl. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wencl and Cathrine Schoenhofen, brother, Robert Wencl and Grandson, Jacob Wencl. Forever loved and missed.
