Kenneth Eugene Manning

Ken was welcomed peacefully into the arms of his Savior, surrounded by his devoted wife and children while recovering at Luther Manor - Grand Meadows from a recent fall. Ken and Irene had moved from Roseville, Minnesota to Dubuque, Iowa in January 2023. Ken is survived by his wife Irene June (Herlofsky), four children Laurie (Todd) Ahlquist, Philip (Liz) Manning, Mary (Paul) Shelor, and Arthur (Lois) Manning, son-in-law David Dirks, daughter-in-law Lori Manning. He was preceded to glory by his eldest child Cherie Dirks, and his youngest child Alan Manning. They have 22 grandchildren: Nichole, Andrew, Jonny, Annie, and Jessie Dirks; Ben, Rachel, Aaron, and Megan Ahlquist; Kayti, Nate, and Kaylee Manning; Christopher and Bryson Shelor, Steven, Michael, Rebekah and Lizzy Manning; Jacob, Katie, Andrea and Emily Manning; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren...and counting! There are 82 precious souls in their extended family! The son of William Truman and Edith Marie (Watson) Manning, Ken was born in Atchison Kansas, and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota when his father's company, Pillsbury, offered a position there. Ken and Irene became sweethearts in 1948 as sophomores at Edison High School. They married on June 13, 1953 at Northeast Bible Chapel. Ken later graduated from the University of Minnesota as a mechanical engineer, and found employment, first at Honeywell for 10 years, and then 32 years at 3M Company until retirement in the late 90's. Ken played in the tennis leagues at both Honeywell and 3M, and even won a tennis trophy at the Minneapolis Aquatennial tournament. Ken and Irene built a home and raised their family in New Brighton, Minnesota where Ken was a faithful member and leader at the newly founded Sunnyside Bible Chapel. Ken directed Sunday School, led the youth group, directed song-leading, and also led as an elder at the chapel. Ken spent several years playing along with Irene in the Fridley City Band, where Ken played trumpet and Irene was on percussion. Above all, Ken faithfully supported their church and several evangelical outreach ministries, and spent many years on the board of Lost Timber Bible Camp - Chandler Minnesota. They have always had great satisfaction when they observe kids who come to camp and then leave with a whole new outlook on life. Spiritual development has always been a significant part of their lives. Memorial service 10:00 AM, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM, on Saturday, April 20 at GracePoint Church, 2351 Rice Creek Rd, New Brighton. A luncheon will follow. Private interment at Hillside Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lost Timber Bible Camp (https://www.losttimber.org).
