Kenneth James Lynes

Lynes, Kenneth "Ken" was a miracle right from the beginning. Because of cancer treatment his mother had been told by doctors she'd be unable to have more children. When she became pregnant doctors said to remove the fast growing "tumor". Surprise, a healthy and strong baby boy was born. They named him Ken. In the beginning, Ken delivered the paper and later was in-charge of the paper shack where the rest of the boys picked up their papers. He was also an avid ham radio operator with a 30 foot tower in his yard and he communicated with people all over the world. He joined the Navy after high school. The Navy realized his intelligence and sent him to University of Kansas, where he got his Electrical Engineering degree, then on to Officer training school. During this time, he continued his love of learning and travel going to the South Sea Islands, the Equator and other places. Unfortunately, family commitments brought him home before he could finish his service. He lived life to the fullest with compassion and kindness for the people around him in very tangible ways: Never one to sit around unless it was at a computer, he got involved with Big Brothers, was active in Hope Lutheran Church, a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and enjoyed being part of the Van Cleve Park Seniors Club. He took friends to doctors appointments and was always willing to give people his time. He built his own business, Lynes Electric with his partner (and one of his "little" Brothers ) Lowell Johnston. When the opportunity came Ken traveled the world, going too far off places like New Zealand & Australia. Ken also spent several months working in Sao Tome and Principe. Ken was always searching for knowledge. He enjoyed debating any and all topics. He is preceded in death by his mother Vada, and his father William, his brother Tom Lynes, and his sister Muriel McGinty. He will be missed by his nieces, Leona (Jerome) Kruchten , Maureen McGinty (Erling Hallanger dec.), and Colleen (John "Jack" dec.) Friedrichs and Catherine (Blake) Dahlvang, and his many "Great" and "Great Great" nieces and nephews.
