Kathleen Elizabeth Schulien, 79, of Chanhassen, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026. Born on May 13th, 1946, in Detroit, MI, and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Kathi grew up surrounded by family, loyal friends, and the Midwestern values she carried throughout her life. She lived with a spirit marked by her open heart, her nurturing nature, and her gift for making others feel seen. Her family and friends were her greatest joy, and she leaves behind memories of her unwavering warmth, her generous spirit, and the infectious smile that lit up every room she entered. Kathi built a meaningful career wherever life took her. During her young adult years, she worked as a Flight Attendant for Northwest Airlines based out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. It was on one of those flights that she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Schulien, a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. They quickly fell in love and married on September 5th, 1970. Early in their marriage, they lived in Detroit, where they welcomed two children, Lisa Marie and Jeffrey Robert. A few years later, they moved to Northern Virginia, where they built their home, welcomed their third child, Laura Anne, and raised their family-creating lifelong memories for more than 40 years. Over the years, Kathi held several roles while raising their three children, but it was her long‑lived career in Office Management at George Mason University where her talents truly shined. She approached her work with quiet determination, a strong work ethic, and a deep sense of integrity. Those who worked with her admired her reliability, her honesty, and the pride she took in doing things the right way. In the spring of 2021, Bob and Kathi, joined by their daughter Laura, moved back to Minneapolis. It was Bob's long‑held promise to bring Kathi home for her retirement-a promise he honored with deep love and devotion. Beyond her career, Kathi embraced the simple joys that made life beautiful. She found happiness in cooking meals that brought people together, thoughtfully decorating the homes she lived in, nurturing her gardens, and traveling with Bob, their children, and close friends. These pursuits reflected her vibrant personality and her love for creating meaningful moments. Kathi will be remembered for her genuine spirit, her unwavering strength, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel special. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her husband, her children, and all who loved her. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Lisa, Jeffrey (Wendy), and Laura; her grandchildren, Ethan and Bear; her sister, Debra; her in‑laws, Bonnie (Gary) and Christina; her nieces, Andrea (Aaron) and Ashley; and her nephew, Chris (Kim). She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruth Stauber, and her sister, Sharon Hannan. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 19th, 2026, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, located at 5025 Knox Avenue South in Minneapolis.
