Katherine Stella Steffes

Katherine Stella Konakis Steffes, age 79 passed from this world to eternity on January 6th. She now lives in peace, as she experiences heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Kathy developed a rare form of stomach cancer in early October. She fought her battle with a positive outlook, because that's who she was. Always smiling, and concerned for others, she'd say often "I'll be ok". Doing well with chemo, things changed in late December. A bacterial infection invaded her weak body, and she was unable to fight any longer, succumbing to sepsis. Kathy loved her family. Her son (John) and daughter (Connie) were priorities in her life. She was an extremely selfless lady, often sacrificing to help them with any need they had. No matter what, they could count on her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also deeply loved, she was their Yia Yia. She enjoyed their company and looked forward to every visit. Big hugs, and many kisses were always awaiting. Yia Yia's Christmas tradition started years ago. It would be her house on Christmas Eve. The family all knew, that was her night. Lots of laughter and many memories were created on Blackstone Avenue, cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Kathy devoted over 30 years of love and compassion to her job. Working at Lenox Community Center with the elderly was a big part of her life. She loved them dearly, staff as well. Kathy was introduced to Cornerstone Chapel (Leesburg, Va). She watched the on-line services faithfully each Sunday. Making her daughter laugh she would say, "I know I'm at home, but I feel like I need to be showered and ready for church." It was of importance to her, even if it seemed silly. She looked forward to Pastor Gary's sermons, eventually giving her life to Christ. We miss her deeply. But as Pastor Gary says. "We grieve not as the world does", for we have the hope and promise of seeing her once again. Kathy is proceeded in death by her father John Konakis, Sr., her mother Yolanda Konakis, sister Constance Konakis, brothers John Konakis Jr., and Gust Konakis, Special Aunt Connie Poglajen, Special Uncle Frank Poglajen, Special Cousin Frank Poglajen. She is survived by her son John Henry (Amy) Steffes Jr., daughter Connie (John) Trentor, Ex-husband John Henry (Ginny) Steffes Sr., Grandchildren Jacob Steffes, Samantha (Alcuin) Lahr, Shane Trentor (Karlie Larson), Rachel (Kevin) Duhe' Great grandchildren Jaxon Trentor, Sutton Duhe', Rylee Duhe', Special Aunt Carolyn (Andy) Oman, Special Cousin Johnny (Robera) Poglajen. As part of Kathy's final wishes, there will be a small family Celebration of Life (date to be determined).
