Katherine Patricia McMullen

Katherine Patricia (Casey) McMullen passed into heaven on Monday, October 28, 2024, surrounded by her family at the age of 93. "Patty" was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus J. ("Butch") McMullen Jr., her mother and father Catherine Lanigan Casey Hughes and Eugene Casey, her sister Mary Jean Casey Kelly, her brother Richard Casey, brother-in-law Norm Meier, and nephews Mark McMullen and David Meier. Patty and Butch had 8 children, 22 cherished grandchildren, and 35 precious great-grandchildren: Marcellus Joseph III & Leann, Jean & Rick (Diaz), Tim & Tricia, Mike & Julie, Barb & Robert (Gardetto), Patrick & Mona, Kevin & Paula, and Terry & Anneli. She is also survived by her sisters Kathleen Meier and Carol (Leon) Schumacher, in-laws Kathie Casey and Gerald Kelly, as well as numerous dear nieces & nephews, cousins and friends. Patty was born in Minneapolis to Katie and Gene on July 31, 1931, and grew up in Darwin, MN. She spent three years at Litchfield HS, before graduating from Dassel HS on a dare. She married Butch, the love of her life, and together they raised their big family in South Minneapolis. Patty was deeply rooted in her community, dedicating much of her time to Holy Name Catholic Church & School. A true matriarch and natural caregiver, Patty had a heart inclined toward helping others. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and plenty of shenanigans. Her door was always open for anyone who needed a warm meal, a full house, a big hug, a bad joke, or rowdy game of cards, all served with her signature bit of blarney. Her many loved ones will forever cherish her quick wit, radiant Irish smile, and the enduring twinkle in her eyes. It's a comfort to all to know she's united in heaven, dancing with her favorite 500 partner once more. A visitation will be held at Washburn-McReavy Edina from 3-6 pm on Sunday November 3rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3637 11th Ave S. Minneapolis at 10 am, Monday November 4th, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Luncheon to follow. Interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Memorials can be made to Minnesota Hospice Organization (minnesotahospice.com) or Holy Name Church. Sláinte ás saol fada!
