Karon Yvonne Leffler

Karon Leffler, age 86, of Richfield, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly but surrounded by her family on June 15, 2024. She was born on February 25, 1938, in Clear Lake, Iowa to Kenneth and Ethel Haugen. Being that Karon's father was in the army, they lived in various states/cities as she was growing up. They eventually moved to Owatonna, MN. Karon worked at the local dime store. She loved to go down home (Clear Lake & Mason City, Iowa) to spend time with family and to go to The Grand Ole Opry, in Nashville, when they could. After graduating from Owatonna High School, she met and married Jerome "Jerry" Leffler. Moving to Minneapolis they started their family; they had four children: Cindy, Sheri, Danny and David. Upon purchasing their first home they moved to Edina where Karon stayed home to raise their children. When David entered kindergarten and her soap opera introduced a storyline that she didn't like, Karon decided to go to work. After making a few calls, she accepted a position with Supra Color, a professional photo lab, where all of the employees became true lifelong friends. In 1976, Jerry and Karon moved the family to Richfield. After a successful 32-year career Karon retired. With her children raising their families in the surrounding suburbs Karon was able to stay involved with her children, build strong bonds with her grandchildren and to be part of their lives. She was thrilled to welcome her two great grandchildren, Charlie and Morgan, in December 2022. Karon loved her children, daughter and son-in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, and her extended family more than they'll ever know. She loved looking through and testing recipes; planning the menus for upcoming events; cooking; baking; finding new Christmas cookie ideas; the annual canning event; family gatherings; all of the family shenanigans; our pets; good friends; laughter; planning, giving and receiving joke presents; traveling; road trips; life escapades; hearing her grandchildren's adventure stories; humbling experiences; all of the parties; playing Euchre; seeing her grandchildren's successes and reaching their various milestones; playing Barcalounger volleyball; working sudoku puzzles; reading; and going to the casino to play her favorite slot machines: China Shore, the curtains, and Triple, Triple, Triple. No matter what the occasion, vacation or road trip, it was really all about the food! Her family will always remember that cleaning was always sweeter with a little Milky Way incentive and that she was a true balance beam & synchronized swimming Olympian! All of these times have created a lifetime of heartwarming memories. Karon is survived by her daughters, Cindy and Sheri (Darwin); son, David (Becky); grandchildren, Danny (Dana), Abbey (Jimmy), Nicole, Piper, and Johnny (fiancé Liz); great-grandchildren, Charlie and Morgan; sister, Aleah Haugen; sisters-in-law, Connie (Wayne) Whipps and Linda Leffler; brother-in-law, John (Jan) Leffler; special friends, Bruce Brassard and Jon Blanchard; and many other family & friends by whom she will be dearly missed. Karon was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Jerry; son, Danny; parents, Kenneth and Ethel (Brakke) Haugen; sisters-in-law, Betty Henry and Audrey Broman; brother-in-law, Chuck Leffler; nephew, Timothy Whipps; niece, Debbie Henry; family friend, Ron Sanetrick; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12, at 11 AM at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Visitation one hour prior. If memorials are preferred, Karon supported Sharing & Caring Hands, Boys Town, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and the Animal Humane Society.
