Karol Arneson

Arneson, Karol J. of Minnetonka and formerly Minneapolis, passed away November 17, 2011, age 87. She was married for 65 years to her loving husband, Roy, who predeceas- ed her by 7 months. She was also predeceased by her parents Alfred and Gladys Benson, brother, Keith Benson; sister Kathlyn Langenderfer, and brother-in-law, Carl Arneson. Survived by brother, Kendall Benson, and brothers-in-law Earl Arneson, Morten (Sharon) Arneson and Marvin (Carol) Arneson. Karol is survived by her seven sons, Ross (Sheila), Randy (Becky), Bruce (Chris), Brad (Judy), Richard (Bridget), Roger and Robert; 14 grandchildren, and a growing number of great-grandchildren. Karol graduated from St. Francis High School in 1942, and worked at Northern Pump in Fridley, a defense contractor during the War. After Roy returned from Army service, they married in 1946 and began a large and loving family. They lived in the Camden neighborhood, where Karol became a community activist. Karol and a neighbor published a popular history of Camden, which was sold to raise scholarships for local students. She was a member of a small group who promoted the creation of the regional newspaper "Camden Community News," which is still operating today. She also lobbied for a new library and new park building at Shingle Creek Park. Karol was very active in Democratic politics with her husband Roy, and hosted gatherings for many prominent local and state officials. As a second career for both of them, Karol was the office manager for her husband Roy, as owners of Flying Scotchman at Crystal Airport. Their flight school trained hundreds of pilots during 50 years of operation. Karol was a wonderful wife and mother, an accomplished musician, a superb cook, and always the life of the party. She was a beautiful person in every way, and will be greatly missed. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Donor choice for memorials.
