Karen Mary Keller

Karen Mary (nee DeBruzzi) Keller, a truly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, earned her angel wings on Sunday, December 28, at her home, surrounded by family, following a courageous six-month journey with pancreatic cancer. She faced her illness with grace, strength, and the same quiet determination that defined her life. Karen was born on July 16, 1943, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Anthony and Irene (Rosetti) DeBruzzi. The only sister among four brothers-Gary (Kathy) DeBruzzi, James DeBruzzi, David (special friend Carol Pearson) DeBruzzi, and Edward (Jane) DeBruzzi-Karen grew up learning strength, patience, and humor, qualities that served her well throughout her life. Karen graduated from Denfeld High School in 1961. In her early twenties, Karen relocated to the Twin Cities, where she built a life rooted in hard work and deep relationships. She spent nearly 40 years as an office manager with MetLife in Edina, where she was respected and valued for her reliability, positivity, and kind-hearted nature, until her retirement. On July 23, 1977, Karen was united in marriage to the love of her life, Paul Gregory Keller. Together they shared a devoted partnership and raised three children-Kevin (Jessie Barber), Kristina (Danny Boyle), and Kyle (Becky) Keller-whom Karen loved fiercely and supported unconditionally. She was a steady presence, a trusted confidante, and the heart of her family. Karen was a loyal friend, a supportive sister, an adoring aunt, and a warm, generous soul to all who knew her. Nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren: Greta, Wyatt, and Marryn Keller, and Marietta Boyle. She was happiest cooking alongside them in her kitchen, especially making her beloved Italian dishes like stuffed shells and pizzelle cookies, cheering them on from the stands at sporting events, or applauding proudly at dance recitals. Karen embraced life fully and taught her family that life is meant to be enjoyed. She loved traveling, sharing adventures with friends and family, creating "artsy craftsy" projects to give to loved ones, and cheering for her favorite team the Minnesota Twins. In 1987, she even took her oldest son, Kevin, out of school to attend the Minnesota Twins World Series parade-an enduring example of her joyful spirit, her love of fun, and her gift for making meaningful memories. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Irene DeBruzzi; in-laws, Gregory and Ethel Keller; brother, James DeBruzzi; sisters-in-law, Mary Leslie and Kristine Dembiczak, and brothers-in-law Jerry Weier and John Leslie. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Karen's legacy of love, generosity, laughter, and joy will live on in all who knew her. Services will be held on Friday, January 9, at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Edward in Bloomington, with visitation one hour prior at 10:00 am. Burial at Fort Snelling will take place at a later date. There will be a live stream of the funeral available.
