Julie Ann Goodman

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our Mom and Wife, Julie Goodman, on August 24, 2026. Julie was 63 years old. Typing out these words feels so surreal for our family. Back in June of 2026, Julie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive blood cancer that developed in her bone marrow. She was diagnosed and treated at Mayo Clinic in Rochester from June until her passing in August. Julie was such a fighter. Chemo in the beginning didn't even seem like it phased her. She was walking, gabbing with her nurses, coloring and doing puzzles, watching movies, and had a full visitor schedule of her family and her besties, aka the Church ladies, who were all visiting her daily. In mid-July, Julie had her first bone marrow biopsy to see if the first wave of chemo had killed off the cancer cells in her bone marrow. Unfortunately, it did not. Julie then underwent her second wave of chemo, which was more intense and required more frequent treatments. She continued to battle through, but this second wave of chemo killed off a lot and left her with a weak immune system. She developed pneumonia and an inflammatory infection during this time. Still, she kept persevering. Sending text messages, trying to talk on the phone when she could, keeping a walk here and there - she wanted to do anything to mentally and physically help her body keep fighting. On August 18th, we got the good news that the chemo had done its job and killed off any signs of cancer cells in Julie's bone marrow. We were excited, and her Mayo team was beginning to prepare her body for a bone marrow transplant. We got to the end of the week and, by Friday, August 21st, Julie's oxygen levels were beginning to fluctuate - dropping, increasing, and fighting to breathe on her own. Our family was with Julie down at Mayo on Friday the 21st. She knew we were all there. Her breathing began to come back up, she was having some scans and tests done, and she even enjoyed her favorite Caribou tea drink later that afternoon. We weren't out of the woods yet, but things looked like she was going to be stable and keep persevering. In the early hours of Monday, August 24th, we received a call that Julie had a bad overnight and was being transferred to the ICU at Mayo. They did have to put her on a ventilator to help assist her with breathing. Julie had liquid filling her lungs and internal bleeding starting to show up everywhere. It was a painful, sudden phone call her care team had to share: despite all the fighting and efforts she and the team were doing, they were not going to be able to help her further. Surrounded by her family and dearest friends, we gathered to say goodbye to Julie on the evening of August 24th. Singing some of her favorite hymns, sharing scripture, and holding her hands, she was at peace. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Avis Hoaglund. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Tony Goodman; her girls, Amanda Goodman (32), partner Nate Beaulieu; Chloe Goodman (29); and Kendell Goodman (27); her sister Terry McCarthy, husband Rick McCarthy; her sister Sue Hoaglund, husband Mark Long; her brother Mark Hoaglund; nephew Sam McCarthy; nieces Lucy McCarthy, Megan Hoaglund, and Gretchen Hoaglund; and many cousins, plus her "extended" family - her community at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. Julie was so active in caring for others and was deeply loved by her family, friends, church community, and all those whose lives she touched.
