Judy Ann Askelson

December 29, 1943 - March 1, 2025 Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Gordon and Dorothy (Anfinsen) Nordberg, Judy was raised in South Minneapolis. Judy had a passion for music, knitting, giving from the heart, teaching Sunday School and her church. A graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1961, Judy was proud of the forty years she spent working for North American Life & Casualty as an Underwriter. On May 1, 1976, she married the love of her life, Roger DuWayne Askelson, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They had less than five years together when Roger passed away January 16, 1981. Through most of those years, Judy sang in the choir and taught Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran where she was married. Art was one of Judy's loves, especially the pieces painted by her mother, Dorothy. This love for art morphed into her knitted creations later in life, of which there were thousands and all were given with love to family and friends, but primarily the needy. Family was a constant throughout Judy's life and she loved spending time at family member's homes and on the many waters of Minnesota. She took great pride in the fact that her Anfinsen grandparents were one of the founding families of Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church where her memory will be honored with her funeral service. Her devotion to her family, friends, and community will be remembered by all who knew her. She cared for her four nephews and they cared for her, along with her close and extended family. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Dorothy (Anfinsen) Nordberg; her husband, Roger Askelson; her brother, David Nordberg and her brother-in-law, Thom Boncher. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Boncher; sisters-in-law Arlene Nordberg, Carol Maki and Susan Darling; brother-in-law Lyle (Wanda) Askelson; nephews Michael (Dana) Nordberg, Mark Nordberg, Thomas (Jill) Boncher, Paul Boncher, Brian (Shelly) Maki, Mike (Sherry) Darling, Matt Darling, Monty Darling, Jacob Askelson and T.J. (Ashley) Askelson; niece Pam (Tim) O'Brien; great-nephews Evan Boncher and Caden Nordberg; great-nieces Alannah Boncher and Callie (Michael) Benusa. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Noon (with visitation one hour before) at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church at 5011 S 31st Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Judy will be laid to rest beside her husband, Roger, at 2pm at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Judy's memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and in the lives of those who were fortunate to know her.
