Judith Jean Stratton

Judith (Judy) Jean Ziegler Stratton was born March 4th, 1940, in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Judy died peacefully at home with family gathered around her on March 21, 2025. Judy was born into a large extended Roman Catholic family with aunts, uncles, and cousins - several of whom were nuns and priests. Judy attended Roman Catholic grade school in Plymouth and Catholic boarding school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She entered the convent in Milwaukee. As a Franciscan sister she taught schools in Milwaukee and the surrounding area. Judy was always concerned about social justice and meeting the needs of others. She was active in the civil rights movement in Milwaukee and participated in civil rights marches and activities while in the convent. However, Judy wanted to be an nurse. She left the convent and earned her Bachelor's of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1970. She served in hospitals in the Milwaukee area until she began teaching at the Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee. In the early 1970 she met her future husband. She and Terrance married on February 3rd, 1973. Judy was active in the parishes that she and Terry served in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She participated in vocal and bell choirs, served in women's groups, and was involved in many other parish activities. She also enjoyed being a friend to anyone who needed one. After many years as a hospital nurse Judy began as an adjunct professor of nursing at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. She continued her education at Scholastica and earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Nursing in 1993. She then taught as an Assistant Professor at St. Scholastica for many years until she retired. She continued sharing her nursing knowledge by training and volunteering as a parish nurse. Judy and Terry loved going to Florida during the winters after they retired. Judy was active in the senior park where they lived. She sang in the choir, was part of the quilting group, and took part in many entertainment and social events. She also participated in vocal and bell choirs in the local Lutheran parish there. Judy was an amazing, gracious, outgoing, and fun-loving hostess. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, and serving her wonderful foods at the lake in Trego, Wisconsin. When not serving others through her work as nurse and supporting the ministry of the churches, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading. She is survived by her husband Terrance, Trego, her sister Celine of Howards Grove, Wisconsin, and her three sons: Laurence and Jennifer of Olivia, Minnesota; Aaron and Sharla of Mahtomedi, Minnesota; Nathan and Jonathon of Madison, Wisconsin. Judy was a wonderful grandmother to her five grandchildren: Ava, William, Finn, Isabella, and River. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful and supportive family and friends. Funeral rites and Christian Eucharistic liturgy will take place at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church 3045 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday April 5 at 11 am. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. A reception in her honor will take place in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Committal and reception will take place on April 6th starting at 1 pm in St. Alban's Episcopal Church at 220 Elm St. Spooner, Wisconsin. Internment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Please do not send flowers.
