Joyce Elaine Hetland

Our mom, Joyce Elaine Hetland, was always a guiding light and a source of selflessness and endless love. She passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 at home in Ramsey, MN with her family by her side at the young age of 100. The family had a big celebration in honor of Joyce for her 100th birthday in October. She was beyond excited to say the least. She was excited to be with her family and everyone showed up. She was all smiles all day, I think it's safe to say, she had the best time ever. Joyce loved watching basketball, especially the Timberwolves. She was so upset when they traded Townes, as far as Joyce was concerned, he was the best. She also really enjoyed watching baseball, particularly the Twins. Joyce proudly owned a collection of Homer Hankies. In her free time, Joyce enjoyed crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sewing clothes for her children, and later quilting. She made all five of her children quilts for their beds. She passed on her love of quilting, teaching her daughters how to sew their own quilts. Joyce had a heart of gold and put it out there in everything she did. Joyce was born in Alice, ND, to Mary and William Wadeson. She had four brothers and one sister. Family was the single most important thing in her life, she was always happiest around her loved ones. Preceded in death by the love of her life and husband for 59 years, Chester A. Hetland; son, Leon Hetland; and grandson, Jason Budde. Joyce will be deeply missed by her children, Chester (Mary Jane), Ron (Joyce), Colleen (Ken), and Cathy (Paul); daughter-in-law, Jill; grandchildren, Jon, Rachel, Steve, Suzy, Mike, Mark, Anne, Lynnea, Chris, Jeff, Sherri, Stacey, Stephanie, Amy, and Robert; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 1 step great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St, Anoka. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joyce's honor are preferred to the charitable organization of the donor's choice.
