Joyce Hilda Danforth

Danforth, Joyce age 78, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on 3/2/2023 after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer that she defied the odds and beat for over a year! Joyce was born on Feb 2nd, 1945 to Frank and Hilda Luoma in Britton, South Dakota. After graduating from Oakes High School, ND in 1962 (where she grew up,) she went on to study counseling at North Dakota State University. (She would frequently say, "Hail the bison!") After graduation, she landed her first job in social services for Anoka County, kicking off a career in social work with the last 20 years of her career working as a school social worker at Vandenberg Junior High in Elk River, MN. In 1967 she met Bob and they wed in 1968, going on to have 2 children, Jennifer and Jonathon (Sara). After retiring in 1995, Joyce spent her time volunteering in several organizations including PEO, serving on the board for Guardian Angels in Elk River and various churches. She also spent her time traveling, playing golf, going to the lake cabin, spending time in Florida in the winter, playing cards, spending time with cherished family and friends and keeping Bob in line. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Frank and Hilda Luoma. She is survived by her husband Bob, her daughter Jennifer and grandson Zachary, her son Jonathon (Sara) and grandson Graham, her brother John Luoma (Janet) and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was a caring and compassionate person who never wanted to be the center of attention but was always selflessly helping others. She was a friend to all who knew her and loved unconditionally. She would want me to say, "Love you all!" The Visitation will be Monday March 13th at 10am with the service to follow at 11am and held at Westwood Lutheran Church 9001 Cedar Lake Road, St Louis Park, MN 55426. There will be a luncheon following the service at the church. The service will also be streamed online at westwood.church/...
