Joshua Gee Yuen Mahowald

Mahowald, Joshua Gee Yuen age 46 of Bloomington, MN passed away November 12th, 2022. A proud graduate of Kennedy High School, Josh graduated class valedictorian, earned the Eagle Award, and was a U.S. Presidential Scholar finalist. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in economics from Yale University. After graduating, Josh attended NYU School of Law before deciding to return to his passion in computer science. Throughout his career, Josh supported the development of several cutting-edge cloud-based technologies. In addition to excelling in his profession, Josh cared deeply about justice and serving those in need. This was evident throughout his life. Most recently he served as a mentor for people from underserved communities who wanted to enter the tech field. Although Josh loved his work, he was most passionate about his role as a father. Josh was a natural father who fought diligently for the wellbeing of his children while filling their lives with love and laughter. So much that we love about him can be seen in his children - his commitment to justice, his desire to protect those he loved, his sense of humor, his playfulness, his intelligence, to name a few. He will be greatly missed, but his gifts to the world will live on through all who knew him - especially his children. A compassionate and faithful husband, Josh served and cared for his wife, Deborah. Together, they loved their children with a depth only parents can know. Josh was a brother who loved and protected his siblings with the ferocity of a fighter and the heart of a saint. Always ready to make them laugh, but even quicker to meet their needs and solve their problems. As a son, Josh loved his parents deeply and reflected the best of each of them: the diligence and love of his mother; the patience, compassion, and fight of his father. In recent years, Josh cultivated a life of faith in Jesus. Though this was usually a private matter for him, his faith was a source of deep comfort and guidance through difficult times. He was a regular attender of Hometown Church in Bloomington and was impacted by the teachings of Andy Stanley at Northpoint Community Church. Because of this, we take comfort in Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." Josh is survived by his three children Sydney, Arianna, and Aidan, his wife Deborah, his brother Nick, sister Michelle, mother and father Jane and Steve, and many cousins, in-laws and friends who love him dearly.
