Joseph Phillip Michnowski Born in Minneapolis on 4/22/48 to Joseph and Dorothy Michnowski. He graduated from Edison High School in 1966. Joe served in Vietnam in 1969 with Co A, 2nd Bn, 8th Inf, 4th Inf Div, where he became a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with “60“ Device, Army Commendation Medal, Expert (M-60 MG), Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm Device, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal Unit Citation, First Class. Later on, he spent many years locating his Brothers and organized the first reunion in 2004 in Las Vegas, NV. The Brothers were able to reunite, share stories, meet their families and make new memories. This led to more reunions and created a new bond amongst the Brothers. After the Army, he started his career at Kurt Manufacturing in Fridley, MN. He retired after 32 years. His retirement allowed him to work on his immaculate lawn, do projects around the house, work on the land up north and spend time with his friends and family. He found his forever love and married Tangy (Peck) on May 1st, 1976. They raised two loving children, Angela and Joseph, who gave them 6 amazing grandchildren. His family knew him as very hard working, strict and had high expectations. He created a family bond and raised his children with values that that will be passed on for generations. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many falls duck hunting with his son, Joseph, the winters hunting deer in ‘The Back 40’ with his kids and spent nearly every summer with the family on their annual week long vacation at the 40, then the later years at the cabin on the lake in Ottertail County. There he taught his children everything they needed to know about the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and made memories that will never ever be forgotten and will be passed down to his grandchildren. Joe passed away suddenly on May 30th, after spending days up at the land, getting it ready to be planted for deer hunting. He spent his last few days in a place he absolutely loved and where he started so many great memories with his family. Survived by wife Tangy; children, Angela Courtright (Mike), grandkids Carter, Cayden Samantha; Joseph Michnowski (Shannah), grandkids Joseph, Maycie, Jax; sister Joanne (George Antinozzi); brothers Timothy and Thomas; sister-in-law Angela Crawford; brother-in-law Frank Peck. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy (Grobar), and brother Gerald. Visitation 1-3PM Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd. and also one hour prior to the Monday service at church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30AM Monday, June 8, 2020 at Church of the Epiphany, 11001 Hanson Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
