Rev. Joseph Raymond Gwin

Joseph Raymond Gwin (also known as “Joe” or “Buster”), passed away at his home in Coon Rapids, MN, on July 2, 2020. Joe was born July 1, 1927, to Raymond and Nora Gwin (Stucker). They lived on farms in the Ulen/Felton Minnesota area. When Joe was 18, he married the love of his life, Adeline Matson, and shortly after went into the Army. It was the end of WWII and he was able to return in about 9 months when they started their family and eventually moved to the Fargo, ND area. Joe and Adeline’s love for each other was evident to their 6 children and 12 Grandchildren. Their marriage was an example of great love as Joe lovingly cared for Adeline when she suffered Alzheimer's in the last years of her life. The most important event of Joe’s life was when at the age of 24, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and by 28 felt called to teach God’s Word. He and Adeline pastored churches for The Church of God of Prophecy in West Fargo, Fargo, Bismarck, North Dakota and Rockford, Illinois and Anoka, MN. They loved the people and the people loved them and their churches grew by that love. Joe also worked in auto parts stores and was best known as “Smiley Joe” or “Pastor Grin” as he always had a smile, hilarious laugh and cheery word of encouragement for everyone. Life-long friendships grew from that care and concern as they ministered to the people’s needs. When Joe retired from pastoring, he filled regional and state positions as a Bishop for their denomination. Waiting to welcome Joe to heaven are his wife, Adeline, daughter, Sharon, daughter-in-law, Viv, son-in laws Phillip Blaede and Ronald Stone, his mother and father, 6 siblings, and many loved ones. Surviving Joe are 5 children: Sandra Stone-Schaaf (Jerry), Claudia Doroshuk (Walter), Richard Gwin, Randal Gwin (Ronae), Rachelle Gwin and sister Joyce Matson, along with 12 grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren and extended family members. Joe will be missed by those who loved him. He greatly influenced so many people. When asked how he would like to be remembered, he said: “I did what I could, for whom I could, when I could”. Anyone who knew him, would say that perfectly described Joe. The Gwin family thanks you for coming to celebrate their dad.
