Jorina Scott Andrews, 81, of Richfield, Minnesota, passed away on July 14, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Selma Scott; her brothers Joseph Scott, Jr., Robert Lee Scott, Leslie Scott, Larry Scott, Parnell Scott, and Barnard Scott. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, James (Mike) Andrews; her daughter, Letitia (Tish) Bryant; her granddaughter Sydney Bryant; her grandson Samuel Bryant, Jr.; her sister Hazel Gardner (Henry); her brothers Buel Scott, Horace Scott, and Jake Scott (Mary); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends, and countless others to whom she was a loving mother figure. While we are grateful for the time God gave Jorina to us, no time would ever have been long enough. And so, we rejoice in knowing that Jorina loved the Lord, and we will be reunited again. As we gather to celebrate the life of Jorina, we are reminded of the profound impact that she had on each of us. Her life was God's gift to us; her legacy is our sacred inheritance. Jorina's journey from Mobile, Alabama to Minneapolis, Minnesota was a testament to her resilience, strength, and faithfulness. On December 11, 1944, a precious baby girl blessed the family of Joseph and Selma Scott and their children. Jorina, the third of twelve children, was raised in a home filled with love, prayer and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Her grandmother, Lucille Scott, guided her faith walk and witness, especially as she was baptized "creekside" at the Blooming Grove Baptist Church. At that time, she declared her faith in Christ and a commitment to follow Him. Those who loved and lifted Jorina instilled in her the values of compassion, kindness and devotion to others, shaping her into the remarkable woman we know and love. And so, it came as no surprise that this beautiful woman garnered the attention and affection of the handsome young Alabama State University graduate James Michael ("Mike") Andrews. While they may have met on a blind date, both only had eyes for each other thereafter for a love and life supreme. In Jorina, God gifted Mike with his "help meet" for 60 years. This union of holy matrimony bestowed on the beautiful couple on March 8, 1966 a darling daughter Letitia (Tish) Bryant, a blessing beyond measure. To Tish would be borne the joys of Jorina's life, her two children, the "Grands" - Sydney and Samuel. Jorina and Mike shared a special bond with Tish, Sydney and Sam through their extended travels- with support from Tish's stellar service with Delta Airlines. Their treks of travel included attending celebrations, visiting friends, and just hanging with the family in Atlanta. One of the highlights of Jorina's life was the honor of witnessing both Sydney and Sam graduate from college. And with God's divine appointment and anointment in May, Jorina was able to travel to New Hampshire with the family to witness Sydney graduate with her Master's degree for one last earthly flight! To know Jorina was to experience the quiet power of a life faithfully lived. Her life is reflected in her spirit of generosity and giving to everyone she encountered. She lived out the melody "If I can help somebody... my living shall not be in vain." Wherever there was a need, Jorina worked tirelessly to fill it! In her employment at Wilson-McShane, with a tenure of over 36 years, Jorina advanced from claims adjuster to manager. She was fondly remembered at retirement as a dedicated colleague and friend. In her association with the Red Hat Society and other organizations, Jorina used her gifts of hospitality and friendship to bring people together for enjoyment. Perhaps nowhere was her heart for community service more evident than in her partnership with her beloved Mike (a school principal, teacher and a coach). Together, Mike and Jorina (with Tish in tow) nurtured students and families in the Twin Cities who still share the life-long lessons learned from "The Andrews." Jorina's acts of kindness and selflessness resonated with all who knew her, leaving a lasting imprint of gratitude and hope in the hearts of those she touched. While Jorina worked professionally and purposefully, her greatest service and strength were her unwavering faithfulness to her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. She joined together with the congregations in Mobile at Blooming Grove Baptist and continued her fellowship in the Twin Cities with Zion Baptist Church, Pilgrim Baptist Church and her final place of worship, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Jorina was a worker in the vineyard for the Lord. She served faithfully in ministries including Bible Study Fellowship, Women's Ministry, Bill Hale Chorus, Grief Care and the Prison Ministry. In all these sanctuaries, Jorina's presence was felt in the choir stands, Sunday School, visitations, church picnics and more intimately in the pews. Jorina's genuine greeting of "hey honey", her hallmark smile and hug welcomed congregants, new and old, into her presence at the pew as well as into her home. The Andrews home was always open to friends, family and newcomers where Jorina ushered you into a bounty of delicious home cooked "soul" food that lived up to its name. Savory specialties included but were not limited to lemon bars, deviled eggs and Mike's bar-b-que ribs. Jorina's hospitality extended beyond feeding the body; she nourished the soul with her love and care, creating a space of warmth and comfort for all who crossed her threshold. While Jorina's life was indeed beautiful, she was also battle-tested. And the boldness of her testimony grew even more tenacious with the daunting challenge of battling breast cancer. Jorina's unwavering Christian faith and family provided her with the strength and courage to persevere through the difficult days of treatment and recovery. She not only survived-she thrived! Through prayer, support from loved ones and her unshakeable trust in God, Jorina emerged victorious in her battle against cancer as a 20 year breast cancer survivor, inspiring others with her reflection of resilience and faith. Her life serves as a testament to the power of belief and determination in overcoming life's greatest challenges. In honoring Jorina's memory, let us cherish the moments we shared with her and hold close the lessons she taught us through her life of faith, love and service. May her spirit continue to shine brightly in our hearts, guiding us with her love and light until we are joyfully reunited with Jorina in the eternal embrace of our Heavenly Father.
