Jon Sidney Roberts

Jon Sidney Roberts, age 77 of Brooklyn Park, passed away December 14th, 2015. Memorial Service Monday, December 21st, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel. 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd. 763-767-1000. Interment will take place after the funeral service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Military Honors, 1:35 PM assembly area #6. Jon Sidney Roberts passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family after a three month battle with cancer. Jon is preceded in death by his father, Sidney Roberts and mother, Adeline Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marlene; his two daughters, Denise (Kevin) and Sondra (William); grandchildren, Travis, Britteny (Garth), Chelsea, and Ashley. Jon was also blessed with three great grandchildren; Destiny, Ethan, and Gabriella. Jon is also survived by three brothers and five sisters. Jon was born in Fairmont, MN on May 1st, 1938 and grew up in Welcome, MN. Jon graduated from Welcome High School and shortly after joined the Army. Jon served in the military for 20+ years where he served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Jon was a paratrooper, making multiple jumps out of what he called, “perfectly good airplanes”. Jon, during his military career, received many awards, accommodations and declarations. Although Jon was stationed in several places, he always said Berlin, Germany was his favorite. Jon met and married Marlene Wallman 54 years ago and they had their two daughters, which started the BEAR family. Jon, in his younger years, loved taking his family to Rainy Lake for two weeks in the summer to fish. We have many fond memories of these trips and the biggest fish stories were always enjoyable. Although Jon served in the military, he also worked in the private sector for Vincent Metals where he retired after 30 plus years as a transportation supervisor. It was in Jon's later years when he retired that he found a new past time: Bingo and the Casino. Jon also loved going to his great grandchildren Destiny and Ethan's softball games, where he only missed two games in several years. Jon also amazed us all with his I.Q. and no one dared challenge him in trivia pursuit. A special special thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice with deep gratitude, we appreciated the care that they extended to Jon and our family. A special thanks to Cheryl, Joan, and Eran who were always so caring to Jon. We love you Head Bear and we will miss you. Honey Bear, Easer Bear, Chubber Bear, Buddy Bear, Britzy Bear, Chelsea Bear, Ashie Bear, Missy Boo Boo Bear, Mr. Pooh Bear, Sassy Bear, and the 5th Bear.
