Jolinda Lee Hughes

Jolinda Lee (Hertrich) Hughes, who loved to be called Jo by her friends, peacefully departed for her heavenly home on Sunday, October 29, 2023. With opera music playing at the time of her passing, Jo was surrounded by her loved ones and was holding the hand of her devoted husband of 66 years, Stan. The older of two children, Jo was born in Santa Monica, CA on March 5, 1937. As a child, she loved spending time with her horses on her grandparent's farm and listening to opera while the rest of her girlfriends listened to rock and roll. She met her husband, Stan, in the summer of 1954 at Club Arrowhead where their love story began. Jo was always up for an adventure and supported her husband through Stan's many corporate relocations across the country before eventually settling down in MN where they raised their five children, Lori (Stan) Volkman, Jana (John) Stermer, Scott (Debbie Daggett), Kevin (Scott Dieterle), and Kristi (Scott) Weinzetl. Jo was an energetic "Grammy" to 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Taras), Emily (Nathan), Matthew (Dannah), Adam (Alexandra), Stan (Suzanne), Hillary (Joe), Katelyn (Ryan), Elizabeth, Danny, Dylan, and Nicholas, as well as a doting "GiGi" to her 9 great-grandchildren, Brody, Tarasyk, Joanna, Harrison, Mila, Elizabeth, Rowan, Morgan, and Theresa Rose. Jo was always ready for a game of slap-jack or pickup stix and loved to play audio nursery rhymes for the children on her talking Mother Goose duck! Aside from her family and many friends, Jo was a faithful woman whose greatest passions were Enrico Caruso, schnauzers, gardening, antiques, and needlepoint, for which she was even awarded a First Premium ribbon in 1978 and Show Favorite in 1981 at the MN State Fair. In 1986, Jo was a contestant on The Price is Right and won the race game on her first try! Unfortunately, she didn't get "closest to a dollar without going over" on the big wheel, but instead famously broke a nail on her spin. Bob Barker thought she had lost a contact lens when she bent to pick it up. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Maxine and Frantz Hertrich Sr., her brother Frantz Jr., infant grandson Charles Stermer, and son-in-law Scott Weinzetl. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 10th at 10:30am in the Chapel of the Church of St. Patrick of Edina with a rosary proceeding at 10:15am. For those attending, please use the West Gleason Road parking lot. For those unable to attend, the Mass will be live-streamed via https://vimeo.com/event/3850345 The family wishes to thank in a special way the untiring caregivers at Eagan Pointe Senior Living and Brighton Hospice. They took such loving care of Jo, which didn't go unnoticed by her family. Memorial donations can be made in Jo's honor to your local Alzheimer's Association. Jo was always the sweetest and most generous woman in the room, and for all who knew and loved her, she will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Until we meet again.
