John Washtock

John Washtock of Aitkin, MN passed away on January 23, 2023 in Tucson, AZ. John was born March 18, 1939 in Minneapolis to Leo & Margaret Washtock. Most of his youth was spent traveling to various towns, wherever there was construction work for John's father. On April 24, 1971 John married Susan Arndt. Shortly after, they bought a house in Bloomington which they made a home for there two boys, Michael and Timothy. John and Susan made great memories for their kids such as camping, traveling the country, spending time at Otter Tail Lake in the summer and of course sports. Coaching football, basketball and baseball teams for his boys was a very important part of his life. In the summer of 1990, the day after a family camping trip, Susan passed away at the age of 45. Overnight John became mother, father, sole provider, protector and more for his 10 and 15 year old boys. With his hard work ethic, John did what needed to be done to provide for his family. He passed that work ethic on to his sons, who have that instilled in them to this day. In 1997 John met his long-time significant other, Carol Trick. Farm Island Lake in Aitkin, MN is where the two of them spent their summers. John loved boating, entertaining, working on various home projects and just relaxing in northern Minnesota. John's winters were spent in Tucson, AZ with Carol. Golf was one of the things that John got to do a lot of with his friends and brought him great joy. John is survived by his significant other, Carol Trick; his two sons, Michael (Linzi) and Timothy (Jacqui); along with his grandchildren, Jack, TJ, Ava, Miles and all of Carol's family and grandchildren who knew and loved him as Grandpa John. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Susan Washtock; sister, Beatrice Skramsted; sister-in-law, Janice Lange; and brother-in-laws, Leo Skramsted, Conrad Arndt and Michael Arndt. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Chapel (9940 Bush Lake Road, Bloomington) at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment Dawn Valley Memorial Park.
