John Thomas Vickman

John Thomas "Pugs" Vickman, 84, of Edina, Minnesota and Estero, Florida, passed away on September 3, 2026. Born on July 4, 1942, Independence Day, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, John lived a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, and laughter. John is survived by his three children and their families: his oldest son, Scott, and wife Liz, and their children Cole and Brody; his son Kurt and wife Jeannette, and their children Kinsley and Brooklyn; and his beloved daughter, Shannon Hoogsteen, and husband Dave, and their children Taylor and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Vickman (Karen), and his beloved grandpups, Teddy Vickman and Madison Hoogsteen. John was preceded in death by the love of his life, Diane, his cherished wife of almost 30 years and devoted mother of their children, who passed away in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Kathleen Vickman, and his second wife, Sharon, who passed away in 2021 and held a treasured place in his heart. John built a distinguished career in public accounting, dedicating decades of service to the profession he loved. He rose to the rank of Partner at KPMG, where his integrity, sharp intellect, and commitment to his clients earned him the deep respect of colleagues and peers. He retired in 1996 after more than 30 years of service. John also gave generously of his time, volunteering at Good Grocer, Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, and Florida Gulf Coast Medical Center. While John was proud of his career, his greatest joys were found in the people and things he loved outside of work. He was a passionate golfer and a proud Wisconsin sports fan. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan and Wisconsin Badgers alumnus, John rarely missed a game. On any given fall weekend, you could find him cheering on the green and gold or the red and white, unless, of course, one of his grandchildren had a sporting event. Those games always came first. John also had a wonderful sense of humor and knew how to enjoy the lighter side of life. He loved a good laugh, watching wildly inappropriate TikToks, and indulging in just about every kind of dessert. His family and friends will remember his wit, his personality, and the many laughs he brought into their lives. John Thomas Vickman was a man of intellect, character, strong opinions, a great sense of humor, and a profound love for his family. He leaves behind not only a distinguished professional legacy, but a much more important one, a family filled with stories, laughter, memories, and love. He will be deeply missed on the golf course, in the stands, around the dinner table, and in all the everyday moments where his presence made life a little more fun. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at The Hutton House, 10715 S Shore Dr, Medicine Lake, MN 55441, immediately followed by a reception. The service will center around telling our favorite "John stories," so come ready to reminisce, laugh, and celebrate a life well lived
