John Edward Moran, Jr.

John Edward Moran, age 87, attained his heavenly reward on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. John was born to John Sr. and Mary (O'Connor) on January 7, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN. He was a kind, patient and sincere man whose life was deeply grounded in his Catholic faith and centered on his family. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School and served as a member of the Marine Reserves. He turned an interest in cars into a 25-year career with Freeway Ford in Bloomington. John married the love of his life, Jacqueline Blassingham, who he met at the Saturday Nighters Social Group, on May 12, 1962. John and Jackie built a home in Bloomington where they raised their three children: Diane, Patrick and Mary Ellen. John's interests were varied and his skills unlimited. He turned 1000's of hours of volunteering in youth sports organizations (Bloomington Athletic Association, Bloomington Junior Soccer Club, and MN Youth Soccer Association (MYSA)) into a career as the Executive Director for MYSA. In 2012, John was inducted into the MYSA Hall of Fame. His volunteer work also included service on the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Commission, nearly 60 years as an usher at Church of St Edwards, youth soccer coach and referee into his 70's, and tutor for young Minneapolis students. He was a bit of a card shark playing marathon games of cribbage and bridge with friends, family and co-workers. Not one to sit still, he picked up a retirement gig at the Bloomington Lunds grocery store where he was a customer favorite. Family was the most important thing in John's life. He was actively involved in the academic and athletic lives of his children and grandchildren, traveling across the country to attend games. He took on home improvement projects at all their homes. In retirement, he and Jackie traveled extensively. John was a role model to his entire family showing how a noble person lives their life and he will be dearly missed. John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jacqueline; their children: Diane Moran, Patrick Moran & Mary Ellen Berg (Greg); their grandchildren: Amanda Berg, Grace Moran & Derek Berg; and, great-granddaughter Esperanza Castro-Berg; sister Jean Starmack; nieces Kathy & Colleen and nephews Kelly & Jerry. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Ammerman, nephew Michael Ammerman, grandnephew John Ammerman, brother-in-law William Starmack. Memorials are preferred to organizations that support children and the poor. Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 29, 2026 at 11:00 am at Church of St. Edward, 9401 Nesbitt Ave S, Bloomington. Visitation one hour prior, luncheon to follow.
