John Charles Hilbert June 7, 1935 - April 20, 2025 John (Jack) Charles Hilbert, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, surrounded by the family he so deeply loved. Born and raised in Minneapolis to Thelma Caroline and John Bernard Hilbert, Jack lived a life of devotion - to his faith, his work, his friends, and most of all, his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Judith Hilbert, and their four daughters: Sandy (Tim) Wendelin, Sharon (Rick) Dahlstrom, Julie (Jim) Wohlford, and Jackie (Geoffrey) Olson. He was a proud grandfather to Alex (Savannah), Mel (Minnie), Ben (Morgan), Andrew, Charlotte, Josh, and Joe, and joyful great-grandfather to Lylah and Norah. A strong and thoughtful leader, Jack spent his career with Red Owl/Snyder Drug Stores and as a small business owner where he always carried himself with great integrity and purpose. He and Judy raised their family in Golden Valley and were active members at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church where Jack led building and renovation projects and served as congregational President. A proud Minnesotan with a soft spot for Arizona winters, Jack and Judy spent many joyful seasons in Gold Canyon, where they made lifelong memories with dear friends. He loved the game of golf, playing for almost 60 years - though the elusive hole-in-one always stayed just out of reach. Jack also was a life-long Vikings fan and frequently lamented that they have "been breaking his heart since 1960." Jack was a prankster with a quick wit, a vivid storyteller, and a man whose sparkling blue eyes and cheerful whistling brought light wherever he went. He lived with purpose, kindness, and humor, and those qualities will live on in the family he cherished. Jack's celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 27 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Plymouth, MN. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Unlabeled Theater Company, an inclusive theater organization featuring artists with cognitive and physical disabilities (grandson Andrew proudly performs with this organization) or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Jack's life was a beautiful story - full of love, laughter, whistling and unwavering grace. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
