John Michael Hemann

John M. Hemann, age 54 of St. Louis Park, Minnesota passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2019 with loved ones by his side. John was preceded in death by his father, John E. Hemann and brother-in-law, Steve Gulick. John was born in Osage, Iowa on August 9th, 1964 where he attended school through the 2nd grade. The family then moved to Riceville, Iowa where John graduated from high school in 1983. John achieved an A.A.S. in financial services at Des Moines Area Community College. John went on to earn a B.B.A. degree in finance at the University of Iowa. Following graduation, John accepted a position with Meredith Burda where he worked on the production and distribution of printed materials (newspaper inserts, catalogs and magazines). John continued his printing career through 2005 working with R. R. Donnelley and Sons, Quebecor, Quebecor World, Scoville Press and Banta. John’s career required changing his residences multiple times. He moved from Des Moines, Iowa to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, then to New York City and finally back to Minneapolis/St. Paul. John was extremely passionate about taking care of people in every aspect of his life. His passion led to a successful real estate career where he represented buyers, sellers and builders with utmost integrity and heartfelt care. During his real estate career, John worked for Edina Realty, Re/Max Results and Lakes Area Realty. In addition, John purchased and personally renovated residential homes. John was an avid athlete throughout his life participating in many events such as road bike racing, running, duathlons, triathlons, marathons, sand volleyball, indoor volleyball, white water kayaking, sea kayaking, scuba diving, para sailing, bungee jumping, sky diving, mountain biking, rock climbing, tennis, Warrior Dash and Tough Mudders. A few of John’s proudest accomplishments were completing the Athens Classic Marathon in Greece and summiting both Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. John is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Joan Hemann; his husband, Teddy; sisters and brothers, Marilyn (Dave) Osterhaus, Tom (Mary) Hemann, Don (Cheryl) Hemann, Karen (Tom) Thome, Alan (Linda) Hemann, Barbara Hemann, Jean Hemann, Michael (Tracee) Hemann and Brian Hemann; 23 nieces and nephews; 33 great nieces and nephews and many wonderful and loving friends. John touched countless people. All are invited to celebrate his life at the Church of Saint Joan of Arc, 4537 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55419 on Saturday, May 25th, 2019. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. directly followed by a funeral service. Burial will be in Osage, Iowa at a later date. A Memorial Service for John will also be held on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 218 South 12th Street, Osage, IA with Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery and then a light luncheon at the Columbus Club, 1403 State Street, Osage, IA. John was a loving caregiver to countless people and organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to any of the organizations John supported: Aliveness Project, Animal Humane Society Golden Valley, Arm in Arm in Africa, Avenues For Homeless Youth, Chainbreaker, Children's Cancer Research Fund, Clare Housing, Everwood Farmstead, Farmaste Animal Sanctuary, Guild Incorporated, Home For Life, Just Us Health, Minnesota Literacy Council (National Service), Mission Animal Hospital, Pay It Forward Fund, Safaris with a Heart (New Horizons Foundation, Inc), Second Chance Animal Rescue, Second Hand Hounds, Theatre Latté Da or Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for MN. John will often be thought of and deeply missed. The world has been forever changed by his life.
