John Erick Fagerstrom

Fagerstrom, John Erick age 82, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erick and Ellen Fagerstrom. He is survived by his loving wife, Mitzi; adoring sons, Brad and Brian; grandson Parker; beloved family members (Joan, Robby, Dawn, Marissa and Janae) and many close family and friends. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents at Lakewood Cemetery. John was born March 7, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, having just celebrated his 82nd birthday. John grew up in Richfield, Minnesota, and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Upon his return he graduated from the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He practiced accounting in his early years and later went into business with his father, Erick, and formed Fagerstrom Construction Company. Erick and John built many homes throughout the Twin Cities until his retirement. John met and married Mitzi Miller in 1957 in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. They attended the University of Minnesota together, where Mitzi was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. John and Mitzi remained close friends of the Kappa Deltas and their families throughout life. Mitzi was a grade-school teacher until the birth of their first son, Brad. Brian was born nine years later. Anyone who knew John was well aware of his love for his family and his time at the lake. Early years were spent on Clearwater Lake where his parents had a lake home. Following the passing of his parents, fishing and fun moved to Rush Lake and eventually Forest Lake. John loved to fish and enjoyed having friends up for annual football and barbeque outings. He also loved to fish over the years during numerous trips to Canada. In more recent years John relished weekends spent with his grandson Parker, who brought great joy to his life. In addition to having great pride in his sons, John had equally great pride in his grandson and his many talents. John and Mitzi instilled many wonderful qualities in their children and grandson, and taught them to be proud, independent people, with great pride in their family. John will be greatly missed by Mitzi, his wife of 58 years, who was his primary care-giver in recent months, and by his sons and grandson who were proud of him and all that he gave them in life. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 21 at 10 am at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis. Following the service the family will receive guests at a reception at the Lakewood Mausoleum Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The American Cancer Society.
