Jerome Allen Showalter

Showalter, Jerry A. Age 86 of Maple Grove. Born June 3, 1935 Joined Mary in heaven on July 8, 2021. Preceded in death by parents John and Elvera, broth er Jim and wife of 60 years Mary. Survived by sons Jay (Wendy) and Dean (Pam), grandchildren Dane, Andrew (Elizabeth), Samantha (Brendan), Melissa, Benjamin and great-grandchildren Paige and Marek. A man who loved to learn loved to live - and loved to serve. A man whose top priority was always his family. Part of his childhood was spent in Bolivia with missionary parents. Graduated from Waldorf College in 1955 with an Associate of Arts degree and went on work for Amoco Oil for 15 years. From there, he became owner of six gasoline stations, three muffler shops, an auto parts store and various rental properties. Jerry's gifted sense of business brought him to hold positions such as CEO of the St. Paul Midway Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Amoco Dealer Group and board member of several business associations. As a life-long faithful Christian, Jerry held many leadership positions within his churches, including Church Council President, teacher and chair of capital fund campaigns. He dearly loved his men's weekly study group. Served as 1997 Prince of the West Wind St. Paul Winter Carnival and spread love and encouragement to numerous hospitals and schools. Jerry was a Toastmaster (bi-lingual) as well. The love of learning never stopped. At age 67, he went back to school and earned his BA degree from Metropolitan State University then went on to serve as a trustee on the University Foundation. His passionate sense of service to community and the world through Rotary International is well documented. Jerry held many positions including Roseville Club President, District Governor, Zone Trainer as well as led a Group Study exchange to Argentina, toured South Africa promoting literacy and AIDS care and personally immunized children against polio in Nigeria. Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 5, 11:00 a.m., at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Maple Grove, with family visitation one hour prior.
