Janice M Skold

Skold, Janice M. Our loving wife & mother, Janice M. (Pickle) Skold passed away on April 21, 2016 after a several month struggle with cancer. She was 87 years old - the loving, and dearly loved, wife of Ken and mother of 4 sons - Lee (Peg), Dave (Deb), Cameron (Michele), and Steve (Sue). She was a terrific influence on the lives of her 9 grandchildren - Mark (Kate), Mike (Lauren), Daniel (Nancy), Peter (Anna), Anne, Maria, Megan, Laura, and Cory. And, she had immense joy with her 6 great grandchildren (Eddie, Mary, Nathan, Harley, Ben, and Ingrid). She and Ken first met and started dating nearly 70 years ago, and in 2015 celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage. She was clear of mind, strong of heart, and never wavered in her values and beliefs. Family was always first. A graduate of Macalaster College, Jan was active in PEO from 1948 in Montevideo and Minneapolis, MN and Rio Verde, AZ, where she and Ken shared a second home. She was a Charter Member and served as President of the Minneapolis PEO Chapter DG. Jan was also an active member of Mizpah UCC Congregational Church in Hopkins and the Community Church of the Verdes in Rio Verde. Two of her most favorite activities were golf and bridge. She swung her clubs with gusto, and loved hitting long drives. And there was never a moment when she wasn't up for a rubber or two of bridge with friends and family. She and Ken loved watching the Twins - win or lose, rain or shine. Perhaps her favorite time of year was the annual family retreat to our North Shore property - Spruce Falls Cabins - where the entire family gathers every summer. In recent years, she was happy to follow everyone's busy activities, but was always available for a quiet moment, a chat, or (of course) a game or two of bridge. She and Ken played cribbage every evening, and she's the only person any of the family has known to score a perfect 29! Jan was preceded in death by her parents Clifford W. & Mae E. Pickle, and her granddaughter Sara Skold. There will be a celebration of Jan's life on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Mizpah United Church of Christ, 412 5th Avenue North, Hopkins, MN. We welcome a gathering of friends at 9:30 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am.
