Janice Evelyn Johnson

Janice Evelyn Nylander Quick Johnson was born March 28, 1932. She was the 2nd daughter of Axel Nylander & Olga Bowman, both first generation Swedish Americans. At 4 years old, Janice lost both her father and her grandmother to Pneumonia. After 5 years, Olga wed a widower- Henry Quick, and received the gift of his daughter Betty, as a new sister and friend. Henry adopted Janice and her sister Alice. Over the next several years, the family welcomed 4 more children- Marilyn (Adrien), Charles (Kathy), Diane (Dick), and Robert (Donna). Janice met Carl Johnson on a blind date. They married on June 18, 1955 and together raised 4 sons Jeff (Sherri), Jim (Sue), Jon (Ana), David (Patti). In their 69 years of marriage, they were also blessed with 11 grandchildren (Amber/Harper, Jordan/Amy, Alyssa/Josh, Carl, Lauren, Brian, Kenneth, Janice Marie/Ross, Crystal/Matthew, Patrick/Luana, Melody/Jeff, and 7 (so far!) great grandchildren- Grayson, Landon, Kendra, Hope, Aliya, Rose, and Jason. Along with her immediate family, Janice loved and was loved by numerous extended family members and friends. For Janice, being a homemaker was both her vocation and her calling. She lovingly raised her boys, along with welcoming foreign exchange students into both her home, and her heart. Janice & Boots loved hosting events at their home on Turtle Lake. Countless wonderful memories were made with family and friends through the years. Additionally, she cared for and served her parents and her husband's parents until their passing. Janice served in multiple capacities at Incarceration Lutheran Church. Over the years, she was part of the church choir, handbell choir, and Women's Circle. Along with Boots, she served as both an usher and a greeter. She crocheted mats for the homeless. She packed boxes for Feed My Starving Children, as well as knitted countless infant caps for childbirth kits to aid mothers in third world countries. Her longest role was as a church "Counter" where for over 40 years she led the team that met each Monday morning to count all the tithes and offerings received. Janice greatest joy was her family. She was gracious and forgiving, and always chose to see the best in each and every one of us. We are forever grateful for the 92 years God granted her. Most of all, we are grateful that the Lord allowed us the gift of having her in our lives. She is greatly loved and missed by us all. Arrangements: Thursday, December 5- 10 AM visitation followed by 11am Celebration of Life Service at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 4880 Hodgson Road, Shoreview.
